Minnesota accent?
I'm watching the movie "drop dead gorgeous" and I noticed everyone (most everyone anyways) have this accent I can't put a handle on. Can anyone from MN explain?
it's an odd accent...almost canadian....what up with that?
funniest thing i've heard in a while....from the big brother show...bunky the gay dude said...why doesn't michigan just give that little bit over to Minnesota?

Isn't it the same weird accent that was in the movie Fargo??? If it is, it really is a strange accent. Probably has to do with the people that first settled that area.

The accent is a twist on what would be considered a Yooper accent (Yooper = resident of Upper Peninsula of Michigan). Many yoopers are descendants of the Finnish (not Swedish) immigrants who first inhabited the frozen snow-covered hell that is the UP. There's a chance that some Minnesota folks have a similar sounding accent, but I've never met one. Most Minnesotans I've met (probably a hundred or so) talk similar to Wisconsin/Illinois people, not like Yoopers.
The accent in the movie is kinda funny but generally misplaced, in my opinion.
