Once again we've become the topic of conversation over on the Boxster board when someone asked why the S2K isn't outselling the Boxster...the usual snobby responses were "it's just a Honda- not a Porsche" "no torque" "lot's of power, but bad handling like an American car" (???)blah...blah...blah...perhaps we could set the record straight, before someone starts quoting the "11 seconds to 60" b.s.

Duh! Could it be that there are fewer S2000s available...?

BTW, what a pathetically slow board and awful board! I started two minutes ago and it still hasn't laoded. When I visit other boards I appreciate how much better our is, thanks to C3's expertise. Hope their car is faster

This board is so slow, it's painful. Any way, some of the messages ticked me off, not because they were anti-S2000 but because they were just so stupid and ill-informed. So I posted a reply, which I would not normally do, Here it is:

"I hate to burst your collective bubbles, but fewer S2000s have been manufactured in its less-than-two-year production run than Boxters have been sold in the US in one year alone. Simply put, it's a limited production car and there just aren't that many to buy. 16,000 haven't been sold because less than half that amount were for sale in the first place.

The market demand is also small because the car makes no attempt to satisfy the luxury mentality that seems to almost wholely desribe the behavior of the affluent today. It's a pure driver's car, with none of the pretentions or dashboard superficialities that some manufacturers we know have to tack onto their cars to capture the market of over-weight, over-indulged, over-aged, status-obsessed white males."

TESTIFY RICK! We know we are the annointed "carnescenti"- we bought a car for how it drives, not the nameplate

Sorry boxster owners- I recognise that there is value to your car- one car doesn't fit all.

I haven't gone over to PPBB yet...but whenever I do, which is very rare, I want to shoot myself in the head with that shitbag software they have!

Anyway, can we hear an amen to Rick...!

Maybe I'll go over and check out the lunacy later...that software really compels me to stay the hell away from that place. Some of them are cool, but some of them are pricks. Makes for a tiring afternoon to read through some of their rantings...hmmm, maybe I'll just open another Hacker Pschorr... Yea, those Germans really know how to make good good weissenbier!

A little moderation...

The thread started because someone genuinely wanted to know why more S2000's weren't sold. Some folks took misinformed stabs, others accurately stated that it was because Honda limited the availability. Some folks, however, were definitely dismissive of the S2000, its abilities, and its owners.

My point is...if you generalize and say all Boxster/Porsche owners are annoying/misinformed/rude/snobs, then you are generalizing just as broadly and your opinions should be just as summarily dismissed.

We should judge individual actions, not the whole crowd by association. Complain about the specific posters, but don't blame the whole board for the actions of a few miscreants.

I realise it isn't as easy to vent frustration against a faceless individual when you can just despise the whole lot, but doing so only puts you in the same class as the ones being despised.
