Default Mods covered in an accident?

So after getting into an accident with my GF's car, and having the car declared total and her getting a settlement. It got me thinking.

If I were to get into an accident in my S. Would anything aftermarket be covered?
Assuming its all the other parties fault of course.

Say I were to get rear ended and my Hardtop got messed up and my Mugen exhaust and custom stereo setup got screwed. Thats at least $3-4K worth of stuff, even by used standards(retail it would be 4700 just for the hardtop and exhaust). Would any of this be replaced?

Has anyone had any experience with issues like this? Really curious and a bit worried if it ever happened.

state farm covers anything permanently attached to the car.

If you were rear ended then the other persons property damage would cover your loss, but if you spun out and hit a tree, unless you have custom coverage your regular policy wwould only cover what came with the car...you might get the hard top, but that would be at the mercy of your adjuster...radio and exhaust definitly not

My agent told me if I do aftermarket goodies - exhaust, SC/TC, anything along those lines, I must tell them and they will 'adjust' my payment accordingly. State Farm as well. Might be different in different states? Or even different offices?

you'd have to provide documentation for your mods to the other insurance company if you want them to cover it.

If you pay for insurance for the car, insurance will cover the car. If you pay for the car and mods, insurance will cover the car and mods. If someone hits you, you need to prove the mods are on your car to get money.

getting paid for the mods by another insurance company is within your rights but extremely difficult.

i had one company tell me personal preference items are not covered, no matter what. I had to have it subrogated.

if it is YOUR insurer, you are covered IF you declare them and pay extra. If it is another person's insurer who was at fault, then they are LEGALLY obligated to pay for your mods.

like i said, it is hard.

yeah if you're the no fault claimant, you are covered. The at fault party's responsiblity is to pay for damages, thats all. Its not up to them to determin whats on your car at all. You just gotta provide the value of the damaged goods.

As far as your own ins. co, you can get 'endoresments' for anything extra (non stock) on your car.

Ins. will cover A/M parts as long as they sit where the factory parts would go (i.e. wheels, head unit, CF hood) up to the value of the OEM peice. Anything extra, you'd have to have that endorsement.

They will NOT cover add-ons; items not in-place-of OEM parts (i.e. subwoofers, bodykits, radar dectectors). these items can also be endorsed though.
