I agree, let them rest in peace with under whatever god they serve. Dont disrespect the fallen with quarrel of religious differences.

I say one of the best forms of respect we can give the fallen is to get along. They fought and died for our rights to practice whatever religion we choose, not to fight over it. This is how I honor the fallen in my everyday life, I respect any religion that passes by me.

I guess I'm different. Although I respect the basic and good premise of religion, most religions are bastardized versions of the original good plan. They promote a lot of bad stuff and then fall back on the good stuff as reasons for their continued existence.

There's a difference between a religion and those who practice it.

Separation of church and state, by the way, is not constitutional. Ask Justices Rehnquist and Scalia.

Thats what religion is - the closer to God you are, the less freedom you have.

[QUOTE=s2000raj,Apr 28 2010, 11:13 AM] The transfer into private hands is just a loophole. It gets around the law.

I guess I'm different.

Overbooster: you butchered my post pretty badly.

Loopholes are generally exploitations of rules. It's the reason legalese is such a headache because if you don't spell out every goddamn little point some a-hole will find a way to exploit a small point missed. It's obvious what was meant and then people use loopholes to bend the true meaning of rules.

Nowhere did I call a cross bastardized. Modern religious practice and quite a bit of modern interpretation is bastardized. People use religion the way the want it. They quote bastardized misinterpretations of old languages to the push their agendas.

Again, if you weren't someone who was abused because of religion then you just wouldn't understand. Until someone who is supposed to be a youth minister takes you aside at the age of 12 after you've spend 8 hours in the broiling sun helping at your friend's church's car wash and tells you you are going to hell for being who you are you just wouldn't understand.

###### any religion that's members think they have the right to do that to someone. Petty complaint? Do you have kids. How about when they are young and impressionable you send them to me and I'll tell them they are no good sinners for existing and they are going to burn in all damnnation.

Then I'll tell them they have freedom of religion while I make them take holidays on my religious holidays and make fun of them for celebrating theirs.

Get some perspective before you post please.

Im with ya Raj, I was raised around Southern Baptists and they are abuncha zealots if you ask me... Then I can say the same for other religions.

I agree with you that religion has been perverted and abused to control people and fufil the whims of those in power.

If I was the devil, I would encourage everyone to go to church more, and damn the infadels, heathens, sinners etc...

Some of the most holy people I have ever met did not hide under the shade of any umbrella. Their faith was shown through works and not gloating around beating the shit outta anyone who disagrees with you with your bible.

Its why I hated going to church with my grandma so much... although she did not act like a southern baptist. Most of the surmons were like "Youre not good enough, youre a sinner!!!! Those people who are not here today are going to hell, youre going to hell, everyone is going to hell!!!!!"

If I were to choose a religion, it would be the path of the saints

Feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, protect the weak, judge not others and keep your eyes on your own path. -Kyushin

I'm completely non-religious and wouldn't support placing a cross there if there weren't already one there, but I'm not offended by the recognition of Vet's that happens to exist currently in the form of a cross.

Maybe it's not the best symbol to use, but is it really offensive?
Ditto. Seriously, a cross at a memorial site is shoving christianity in the face of somebody else? People get way over offended at anything these days and the average peson is not going to think anything remotely religious about a freaking couple of sticks making an ablong plus sign at a memorial.

I never see a star of David, or a fat little bhudda statue, or a crescent moon or an elephant with a jillion arms and get all pissed off. Somehow just the fact that people are christians at all seems to get everyones panties in a bunch.

I just wish people would mind their own business, learn to understand other people, take care of themselves and try to understand and take care of the consequences of their actions.

I'm outraged that you're offended and don't share my opinion, and will not give up until you agree.

Frankly, I'm offended that you're offended

On second thought, I don't care - though I'm quite convinced the world would be a better place if everyone just agreed with me.
