New Car for a Teen
I second the notion of the WRX, but since you seem to have ruled that out, I'd take a look at the Lexus IS300. It's sweet looking, 4 doors, and not too slow. If you have money left over, there are TONS of mods to be had on that car, because it has the same engine as the old NA Supras, Lexus SC300s, etc.
On the other hand, you might just want to get a used Accord or something, use it for a year or so, and then trade it in (plus cash) for a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII GSR when they're available here in the states. *drool*

This might sound crazy but how bout the IS 300 Sport Cross 5D?
It's a real cool looking sleeper in a sport wagon kind of way. Before you just blow off the idea think about all the room and things you could use that long flat floor for. Gee, you might even be able to take it camping and sleep
back there.
Cars like this also seem to be the next big thing so it should hold it's value well too.

I would follow azrael's advice. Buy a nice 2-3 year old car (Accord, TL, IS300, whatever...) and save your parental units some money (they'll appreciate it). You will probably do a lot of dumb things with your first car (most kids do
) and it'd be wise to "learn" on a cheaper car. After a year or 2 with the car, once you know your college living situation, and after some time to really decide what you want, get what you really want.
The only exception to this advice would be if you know your parents won't be chipping in financially if you wait.
