New Firearm Owner
I carry a Smith and Wesson 340SC AirLite 357Mag. It's so light and hammerless. Basically it's a 5 shot "Oh Sh.t" gun. You can load it with .38 or 357 rounds. The 357 has a NASTY kick so I usually carry with .38 special. I like revolvers b/c they are so damn reliable. I am the type of person that's rough with my property so I need something that will compliment the rigors of my lifestyle. If you do get a revolver, get one with a hammerless feature. You dont want the hammer getting caught in your clothing as you draw it.
I did own a glock 27 (small sized glock) but i sold it pretty soon afterwards. It was heavy and bulky (same width as the full size glock) and I found that I did not feel like carrying it every day.
Good luck

guys i don't carry all of them at once...... i mix them up. i can carry the bigger guns when wearing more clothing, i/e jeans,winter,coat... the kel-tec is small enough to go in a pocket without even knowing its there.
i do sometimes carry the keltec on the ankle as a back up because again you can't even feel it there. lets just say you are held up where you are stripped of you weapon or something (maybe they know you carry)...its far fetched yes, but its even more peace of mind to know you have a back up. cops have back-ups for a reason. i pray i never have to be put in a position to use either, but if it comes down to protecting my family, friends, innocent...i'll be able to defend myself as well as others.
you may argee , you may not. i don't go showing them off to the world. i pretend they are not there.

Thanks all. I think I am just going to get a revolver (brand/model yet to be determined) and leave it in a bedside drawer. I'm not Niko Belic from Grand Theft Auto, so I don't need to walk around Liberty City with it. I just want it for peace of mind and home protection.
I imagine if I posted this thread on a Ford F150 fansite, the string would be 49 pages long.

look into shrouded hammer styles and maybe a grip positioned laser sight for easier aiming.
whatever you decide. get used to shooting it. nothing sadder than a gun owner that cant hit the broad side of a barn in a life/death situation. Revolvers are most times angry weapons that require a degree of control. They are loud, messy (flash and powder disperstion) and, for most new owners, require more time to compensate for prefiring anticipation jitters (tugging trigger with finger causing nose dips and other aiming issues) and recovery after recoil.
since you basically want this for pure home protection here is some other advice:
I would also look into a nice solid 12 gauge shotgun as a support weapon for the revolver. store both in the "keep" of your house (bedroom usually) make sure your door to the keep is a solid wood door (not hollow) with a dead bolt. and never "house hunt" in invasion situations.
