NFR's Official "I Hate Best Buy" Thread.
well i work at best buy, and i do know what all of you people are saying. it all depends on what store your going to. I personally know all my chit i need to know about product inside i install. so ask away. but then again best buy goes through employee's like nothing. just a FYI if your ever trying to get something installed in your car, always goto a installer before you go inside.

here in laurel MD i can honestly say that they do just hire anybody, not to mention their geeksquad taking advantage of all the people going to them for support.
Ive worked around computers all my life but you really wouldnt know that if you saw me. The topic always comes up about broken computers or issues with computers(sometimes i like to be a a$$whole and dont offer my expertise) then when the prices are all said, depending on the person i would interject and say "why dont you let me take a look at it" ofcourse its going to be free unless i have to buy some hardware for it.
A couple of months ago after i decided to go and see why the hell they charge so much and my SMART friend decided to get a laptop their earlier without consulting me. needless to say he paid 950$ for a 700$ computer and some more $$$$$ for anti virus, spyware, blah blah blah. the laptop was running windows vista and had some issues, when you download updates for it, easy fix to be honest shouldnt take more than 10 minutes(if the person knows what they are doing) Went to the geeksquad windown and this is what they said after 20 minutes of "analayzing and testing"
- the computer operating is totaly messed up we have to reinstall it and it will cost 150$
- we can get the data off but it will cost 100$
- your antivirus needs to be updated along with your anti spyware and blah blah blah(another 75$)
- Other stuff i cant remember but they were going to charge me.
I wasnt mad at them or anything but more or less i felt bad for the people going there.
i started talking calmly and decided to get a second opinion from the manager and other workers in best buy. not so much of a surprise they all said the same thing, they even got the "super expert" guy on the phone WOWWWWW.
went to the counter i put the reinstalation cd in waited 30 seonds and click repair computer. 3 minutes passed and everything started again, working perfectly with a detailed message on why it couldnt boot up.
over all i spent 20 minutes counting the drive to best buy, fixing the computer and then driving back. a 75$ job suddenly became 225$ not to mention it would take 8 - 10 days to fix it.
you tell me if bestbuy is good or not?
but i cant hate on them since my car system came from bestbuy 1650$ total. exept the fact that my friend works their and before he decided to leave he hooked me up and told me that most if not all car audio/video equipment was marked up atleast 40%. and he charged me 1100$. all brand new with reciept showing original prices.
im not a computer tech but i am a system admin.

I went to a local dunkin donuts the other day and asked for a number one, which was two donuts with a medium coffee. I proceeded to ask the guy for a small coffee instead since I didn't feel like wasting the extra coffee. The guys tells me, sorry sir, I can't sell that combo to you. I asked why? The guy replied, the combo is for a medium coffee, you can not substitute for another size. Is this guy serious? I'm willing to pay the combo set price and take a smaller coffee but he won't sell it to me. Where is the sense in that?
Best Buy is a Minnesota based company so I have a couple friends who work as analysts at the headquarters.
I don't get any discounts from them but you can always find a 10% off coupon online before you make any big ticket purchase.
I don't think they have the greatest cutomer service but I know what to expect when I go in and save my reciepts. The prices are generally fairly good.
The best thing about having the friends work there is that they would have access to the inventory system and would could tell me during the christmas rush what stores were getting deliveries of Xbox360's/PS3's?Wii's or whatever.
I used that to get a 360 the year of the Christmas launch. Showed up in line in the morning and my friend told me they will have 6 units when the door opens tomorrow. I was about 5th and when the 7th guy showed up, I told him "you are out of luck." He looked at me funny. When they opened the doors the manager said "Who is here for 360's?" and handed out coupons to be redeemed at customer service because they kept them behind the counter. When he came to guy #7 said "Sorry thats all we have."
I am sure the guy was wondering how I knew.
I could have used that hookup to buy more during Christmas and Ebay them, but I am not into that kind of thing. I draw the line at ruining one spoiled kids Christmas getting my 38 year old self a video game.
