This is a hot topic indeed.

A lot of people buy the cheap stuff and consider it disposable. They know it's not the greatest, but when it breaks or wears out they throw it away and get a new one since buying is cheaper than fixing it. This is sad and scary and it pollutes like crazy, but what can be done on a global scale?

I reduced my Nike purchases, but I think I have a shirt or two, and just last week bought a pair of Nike Running shoes.

It does suck to know (we'll I don't know for sure because you can't believe everything you hear or read) that Nike exploits its employees.......

the real bullshit is that they pay a Michael Jordon or Tiger Woods $100M each to use their child made stuff....

I think GM (and maybe Ford and Chysler) is building and / or selling cars in China.?

New Balance is about the only brand I buy now (they're made in the US - the last I checked).

My opinion of your initial question, I wouldn't make a big deal of it with your GF, but that is not to say, you can't at least tell everyone you know. Its up to the individual to make the choice.

Although I don't make the effort to avoid certain products/brands like I should, I do buy New Balance's and Oakleys.

My NB 990's say 'Made in the USA" right on the tongue. My Oakleys say the same thing on the frame.

Considering that I own 60-70 pairs of Nike sneakers.... err down with Nike! I think that it is pretty laughable to act as if Nike is really any worse than any other manufacturer. Even New Balence has moved a majority of their production to Asia. Nike and other companies pay very generous wages indexed against the CPI levels.
