Not to mention the wireless networking range on the Mac has far exceeded ANY wireless card I've used with my PC notebooks. Wireless G or anyother...
Really....I didn't realize that Mac comes with a super duper long range wireless card that no one else makes that uses more power than anyone else offers.

Especially if she's not a techie, she's going to keep wondering why she can't open certain files and do things that every PC can do.

That is unless you think she's savoy enough to realize that you can't run the majority of programs on it.

As for viruses, just get her a virus program with it, problem solved.
I like the blanket statements. Macs open files just like Windows, or at least all the relevant ones. (gif, jpg, pdf, doc, ppt, zip, etc.) You know what they say, Windows runs tens of thousands of programs, but mac runs the thousands you actually use. She's going to college, not space to program some obscure code. A Mac is perfect.

Yes, get an anti-virus program... and make sure its updated all the time... and fix all the things it breaks... and pay year after year for subscriptions.... and download other apps for spyware, adware, and the viruses the original anti-virus software doesn't clean up.... or buy a Mac. Simple!

This is probably a good reference for you S2k 9k rpm - http://www.apple.com/getamac/

WTF? Viruses? I've been programing since I was 8 years old and never ever got a virus, you have to be a complete and utter moron to get a virus now. It's called a virus checker and a firewall. Microsoft comes with a firewall. People saying PCs get viruses are like PC users saying MACs catch on fire and melt.. Both statements are true the problem is the first one won't happen unless you're an idiot and the second one happens whenever but isn't probable anymore. MACs are worthless because of what you can't do with them, its not what you can do with them, unless you're doing video editing.
I WAS going to respond to your previous post, but I think you bias shows clearly now.

You realize you can run Windows on the new Macbook right?
Sure for $400 more.... The average price for a full version XP (which you would legaly need to buy NOT AN OEM VERSION) so that you can make a $1000 machine work with the majority of applications out there. Total cost >$1400 and why would you do that in the first place, "You'll just get viruses on the Windows side". Of course you can buy a gateway for ~$650 and buy the major microsoft applications for $10 a CD if her school is part of the microsoft network. Let's see office,.net $20 or she can get a mac and buy all those wonderful apple applications like i-tunes....

They open all sorts of files, they just can't install the programs that allow you to use the majority of those files.

More blanket statements. I should have said wet blanket statements. And I think you are the only person in the world who pays $400 for a Windows license....

Funny how everything on this board becomes a debate. Well I made my suggestions. So the balls in his court for his sister. Good luck.

Do hope you choose the mac though, regardless of what others say. In my opinion they just work consistently better.
