DC++ is superawesome ***IF*** you know where the good hubs are.

BitTorrent is another way to share files. I use it all the time for music, movies and anime.

And the best thing is, both are completely untraceable by authorities ^__^

Microsoft is telling the RIAA what we download? I find this hard to believe for a couple of reasons.

1) It has to be illegal one way or another.
2) It'd be a waste of time and expense for Microsoft - it doesn't further their goals as a company.
3) Some people have thousands of files, not all of which were downloaded (many they moved to their hard drive from a CD or whatever), yet the RIAA seems to know exactly what the person has. If MS only reported DOWNLOADS, this wouldn't be the case.

IRC is definitely a great way to transfer files. That said, if they ever DO crack into it, they'll find you awfully easily because your IP address is shown in a transfer (or can easily be obtained). IRC is, to me, very open to hacking and tracing. I use to run an IRC server personally....

Microsoft has nothing to do with this. You can get a user's IP address from Kazaa, not Microsoft.

Since that's probably the worst statement I've ever heard in my life, do you think Microsoft has a log of every keystroke you ever make? Think of how many databases that would hold.

http://www.WinMX.com

A friend told me about this site but I would never think of using it since it's illegal.

I wouldn't trust IRC. I got a letter from my ISP and the MPAA about my movie's i had downloaded as well as shared. They siad if I continue they would file a law suit against me. I've since gone to Direct Connect and Torrent.

Dude, lay down before you hurt yourself. Microsoft has nothing to do with this. All file-sharing programs use TCP/IP, and so by the very nature of the network protocol, the IP is visible. This protocol was developed long before MS discovered networking, so don't give us any crap about them co-opting the protocol as a part of the Tri-Lateral Commission.

If you are happy with your Comodore 64, then smile.

As for the RIAA- those rat bastids had it coming. They have been gouging us shamelessly for the price of CD for far too many years. If they had dropped the price of CDs as their production costs fell, then they wouldn't be facing the big customer loyalty issues they have now. Of course the outrageous prices for live shows only add to that...
