Watch for Tae Kwon Do starting Thursday.

Bravo has a woman announcer who sneers at the camera. This morning I taped the Dressage Free-Style. When it ended they switched back to the studio and there she was, sneering at the camera. Only this time they'd dressed her in a dressage rider's outfit: lacey ascot, white blouse, dark jacket, short top-hat. You wonder if the producers at Bravo sit around in brainstorming sessions trying to figure out ways to make their broadcasts look stupider and stupider. They should get a Gold medal for this morning's effort.

I don't think I have Bravo. I only have the basic cable (with around 50 or so channels).

Perhaps - but I think there's a huge difference between getting yourself psyched & coming across as being extremely arrogant.

Rarely, if ever, do you see athletes in other sports (swimming, gymnastics, etc.) do stuff like that. Seems like it's more the US sprinters.
There's nothing wrong with being cocky. When you're good, you're good. And why not let everyone else know? If you are confident, then good for you. And if you can back it up, even better!

Obviously Maurice Green couldn't back it up and "only" placed third. I'd be happy with a medal.

Olympic lifting and wrestling rule. Too bad NBC and its sister networks don't ever play those events at a time when I can actually see them. Or, they show you one match/event for a whole 5 minutes or less. How freakin' pathetic!

I don't care about the heavyweights. That's all anyone sees. Heavyweight wrestlers and weightlifters. It gives the sport a bad reputation because the average person thinks that weightlifters and wrestlers are big and fat. But if you look at the other weight classes, you see just how shredded, strong and in shape they really are! Besides, it's much more impressive seeing a "smaller" guy lift two or three times his bodyweight than seeing some fat bastard barely manage twice his weight. It just "looks good" because twice his weight is some huge number. Gay, gay, gay. NBC is gay. Coverage of the Olympics is gay.

That American gymnast, Carly Patterson, is cute. But it makes me feel guilty for thinking so because she's only 16 and looks 12.
I don't think Carly is all that cute. Then again, I don't like "plain" girls with thin lips either.

But Courtney Kupets and some of those Romanian girls looked pretty damn good. I'd double do them!

They may be young, but hey, if there's grass on the field, play ball!

This is true. It's even tattoed on his arm. The tattoo of the lion on his shoulder has GOAT written in the mane...and yes, it stands for "Greatest Of All Time."

Well, if he was so great, he would have been faster than Ben Johnson, who still holds the world record of 9.79 in the 100m. Unfortunately, he was stripped of his medal in the Olympics because he failed a drug test.

Well guess what? THEY ARE ALL USING STEROIDS! Only some get caught, or some are made examples of for some reason (political). Thus, the reason why Ben was the "lucky" one who got busted and was stripped of his medal. But he's still the fastest man in the world and no one has beat his time.

I can't believe you just said that!

By the way, how can Ben Johnson's supposed world record time still be considered valid if he was caught doping? I mean, granted it may not have been that exact race, but doesn't it seem logical that the only reason he achieved that time was due to his "enhancements"?

Personally, I think if any of these sports organizations took a really firm stance on doping, they could almost wipe it out. What if instead of these BS 1-year, 2-year suspensions the person got totally & permanently kicked out of the sport?! Who would take the chance then?

Jerseygirl,

Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed!

Although Ben Johnson's record is no longer "valid" according to the record books, he has still posted the fastest time ever. Also, don't believe that it was the steroids that made him fast. He actually used very little steroids (much less than any of his competitors as well). He was fast because he trained hard, had natural talent and an excellent coach. Ben Johnson was one of the strongest sprinters ever, and strength = speed. The stronger you are, the faster you can be. It was a political thing that got him busted (it's always politics), as his competitors were also using, but were never tested. There's a book about it and many other articles written about "cheating" in the Olympics. And it's not just the Olympics. Professional athletes have been using steroids for years and years. You can always learn to beat the tests.

I finally saw some wrestling yesterday. Wow! A whole 30 minutes of Greco-Roman wrestling on CNBC last evening. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to see another match. Still no weightlifting, as they are showing the superheavies at 12:30 a.m. I'm asleep by then. Some of us have to work and can't spend our entire night watching Olympics!

Still waiting to see the 200-meter races with Justin Gaitlan and his training partner, Shawn Crawford. Also, there is a UF gator in the race as well. Maybe they will take 1-2-3!

Oh yeah, Marion Jones was accused of steroid use. She said, "I have never failed a drug test. Interesting choice of words. She's never failed a drug test, but she didn't deny steroid use. You know why? Because they ALL use them! The only ones that don't are the LOSERS you never hear about.

I'll have to post some links for you that will give you an inside look at sports and steroid use.

Did you all see the women's springboard diving qualifiers last night? What was up with the 30 Yr old Kumiko lady from the US. I could do better than her. Ok, maybe not, but I think her first dive scored like a 35.

I felt embarrassed for her. Hey at least she was cute though.

I agree that Ben Johnson was good because he had a sh!t-load of natural talent, trained hard, had a good coach, and was psychically strong. However, his strength was increased (even if only minimally) due to the steroid use.

What would've been better: winning a medal (other than gold) w/o the help of drugs or winning a gold medal only to have it stripped away?

I teach and know that I'd rather see a student use his/her natural academic ability and earn a "C" or a "B", than cheat his/her way to an "A". Unfortunately there's so much pressure from all angles (parents, teachers, colleges, standardized testing, etc.) that many times you get kids who will do whatever it takes (morally right or not) to get the "A". Guess it's the nature of the competitive environment we live in today.....
