I always thought it was a way of confirming you email address so they can spam the heck out of you.

Yep, signed up for that a few days ago. I just got a house and I'm now being bombarded with offers for life insurance to cover the mortgage in case I die.

The offers mention the specific amount of the mortgage so I assume Washington Mutual sold my loan info rather than the marketers picking it up from my credit reports, but still, the less advertisement the better. At least I'll no longer get all those credit card offers. Supposedly it'll take a few months to really show any difference, since a lot of the marketers already have my information.

You know what you can do is just mail everything back in the postage-paid envelopes they give you. Sometimes I put all my junk mail in one envelope and see how they like that.

I've heard that the envelopes are weighed and then the SPAMer is billed for that weight. Supposedly, you can tape the envelope to a brick and put that in the mail...
