I have noticed a number of thread locks surrounding political discussion. I understand the thought process here and I know it irritates many to have political sentiments expressed. However, it also seems to me that this board is about the community of S2000 owners. As such, it is not always a discussion about cars, but discussions about things and people that S2000 owners find interesting. This is all part of the community experience.

So perhaps a way to solve this is to create a "political" group so that people can discuss these things, while others can avoid it.

I voted that I don't care, But I think a little more discretion from the mods would be in order. Since the days of H-A.net I've found Jay to be a fair moderator. Unfortuantly I found his abrupt locking of the China thread a little too blunt. It may be political, but we were hardly fighting in that thread. I was about to put my own views in, as an outsider from Canada, but I guess it wasn't deemed neccesary. Arguing about Bush or Gore is one thing, A civil conversation between people with obviously the same interests should be allowed or even encoureged. Off topic is just that. It should be free to post what evre comes to mind. A little warning of "Some issues may be controvrsial" could set the standard. But his issue is one that affects everybody, much more importance, and enlighting then Kittens in jars. So that's my view, Take it for what its worth....Where's my coffee?

Kittens in the jar weren't locked. It was erased.
The general rule is that a thread can offend a limited amount of members before it's gone.
However, if it offends a moderator, it's gone, political or not. I see kittens in the jar as political as the spy plane incident.
It isn't fair, but I have no problem with it.
If the thread is locked or deleted, find something else to discuss.

Mindcore, you make very cogent points. It has seemed that the majority of people do not want political discussion mixed in with other topics. Being a democratic site, majority ruled. While I agree that off-topic should be just that in an all encompassing fashion, I also respect the wishes and desires of participating members through which this community would not exist. As such, creating a forum to discuss politics (which would seem the most used topic people don't want to see) appeared like a good way to allow free discussion while offering relief to those finding it upsetting.

To be honest I am not very interested in discussing politics (although I think the China question was interesting), however, I have noticed many are which is why I raise the question.

Don't get me wrong, I don't really have a problem with it either, I have short attention span, so I'd forget about it in a hour anyway. Others on the other hand love this stuff, and shouldn't they all have a voice?
Now, I'm just babbleing The board is great, we all have fun, so if anyone complains does any one hear it? does buddy listens to my rants in the outside world. I don't expect anything different in here. and thats fine by me.

I voted no simply because there are other forums designed around politics that are better. We don't allow politics but perhaps I should explain whar I mean by that. I don't mean discussion or debate about world events or even government. I'm talking politics, the stuff people do to get elected or get a point across and to stay there. The BS between various tribal factions struggling for power. That kind of politics.

Well here's a political joke, It's still funny!

The teacher says, "Whoever answers the questions I ask first and correctly can leave early today. "Little Johnny says to himself, "Good, I want to get outta here. I'm clever, that answer's mine!"The teacher asked, "Who said
'Four Score and Seven Years Ago? Before Johnny could open his mouth, Susie said, "Abraham Lincoln!" The teacher said, "That's right, Susie. You may leave." Johnny was mad. Susie had answered first.
The teacher asked, "Who said, 'I Have a Dream?" Before Johnny could open his mouth, Mary said,
"Martin Luther King!" The teacher said, "That's right, Mary. You may leave."
Johnny was even madder than before. Mary had answered first. The teacher asked, "Who said 'Ask not, what your country can do for you?'" Before Johnny could open his mouth, Nancy said, "John F. Kennedy". The teacher said,
"That's right, Nancy. You may leave." Johnny was fuming. Nancy had answered first. As the teacher sat down, Johnny muttered, "I wish those bitches had kept their mouths shut!" The shocked teacher asked, "Who said that?!!!?"Johnny jumped up and hollered, "Bill Clinton!!! See you Monday

Mindcore, good joke! I don't care if people want to talk about politics, I have a life and just move on to the next topic. If that is your thing - go for it.
