Yeah I think a politics forum would be nice. The argument that people don't come here to discuss politics doesn't fly. I don't specifically come here to discuss jokes/humor but Schatten constantly posts jokes and links to sites such as Ilovebacon.com and noone locks those threads. They have nothing to do with the S2K. I've found, with this group of people, some of the most intelligent people by percentage of a group that I've ever known. I would love to have some ADULT, MATURE, dicussions of significant issues beyond what color S2K looks best. If it's a separate forum and you don't want to discuss politics you can easily avoid doing so.

Upon seeing this poll I had no idea what to choose... so I read the whole thread up to here thoroughly enjoying the interesting arguments presented and eventually being thoroughly convinced that a Politics forum should be created on its own.

Why?

Because I know that if I were to have a philosophical or political itch, I can hop on over to the S2000online Politics forum where I can trust that I will be reading some great intelligent banter even if conclusions are never reached. In those cases where the discussions degenerate into misunderstandings or overly spiteful remarks, I would just be shaking my head at those that started the degeneration and move on to the next thread.

I think banning politics on a site like this is probably "wrong" in more ways than it is "right."

Heck guys, if we're going to discuss politics here, we may as well tackle the other taboo too, religion.

Now who wants to start off?

I think discussing religion would be more dangerous than politics, because it's a much more personal thing. Definitely a bad idea, but according to the people who want a politics forum, there should be a forum for basically anything and everything as long as a couple people demand it.

I know I said I would not respond again, however, when I see a factual (as opposed to opinion based) misrepresentation, I feel I need to correct it.

I kept wondering Jay Li, why you refuse to be objective throughout this post. You had seemed to me to be an intelligent person who has done a good job of moderating. However, with this post your responses, as the one above, made me believe you did not even bother to read or attempt to understand the rationale behind this. I realize now that it might be because you think all of this is an attack on you or in some way is a slight on your ability to moderate. Fact is, at least from my point of view, I don't think the moderators had a choice in their actions. With such a broad and undefined generalization surrounding politics or any other taboo subject, I don't know what else you could do. I thought this might have made things a little easier for all involved.

To the misstatement of facts. This is NOT about creating a forum every time an individual wants to discuss breakfast cereal or their day at the church. This is about giving a forum to a sizeable part of the community. To the point on religion. If a very large segment wanted to discuss religion, than yes it should be a forum. As it is, I have never perceived that desire nor do I recall any posts or locked topics about it. So why create a forum for something the vast minority or perhaps no one wants to discuss? Please refrain from generalizing here gentlemen. If political discussion is in fact a vast minority of people than I wouldn't create the forum either. I had not perceived it that way, hence this topic.

Anyone having read, to any degree, any of the other posts should be well aware that this was never about creating forums carte blanche' for anything someone wanted to discuss.

Scott, let me assure you that I don't feel personally harmed by anything that is said in here. If people sincerely wanted a politics forum and cthree created one, I wouldn't be vehemently opposed to it. I just expressed why I don't think there should be one. Like you said, if only a few people are interested in the forum, it shouldn't be created. According to your poll, 12 out of over 1800 members seems to be a small minority, hence no politics forum.

Scott, even of the 58 people that have voted, only about 1/5 are for it anyways. Still seems like a minority to me.
