Excavated this thread... Neat that nearly 1 year later and the video game is out in the States for PS2!
Codemasters has done it again
Lotta fun
. Spot on controls & physics. Like all the TOCA series, I'm stunned with the various camera angles. The track variety is sweet as well. I gotta admit that I hate the "really close" tracks...where the walls are built up on each side and only about two cars wide???...such tracks require incredible technical driving not to turn your ride into a ball of metal
...but that's the beauty of the game. You drive these cars with controls as tight as the S2K. And when you f-up, and hit a wall...or over-brake a corner...you hate yourself for it, because you *know* it ain't the fault of the game that you just hit a wall or over-braked.
Its all on you to be the best driver you can be.
Replay...and just an ever-so-slight squint of the eyes, and it looks real. Hell, when you're in-game and using bumper-cam the speed is simply awesome!!! Gotta admit tho', some lil' graphic issues are kinda perturbing...colossal bitmap images of trees occasionally, flat sprite-based "fans" and "crowds". But I try to tell myself that Codemaster's did this because their focus is on excellent racing. And in that, there are no graphical glitches. Solid cars seem to be on-the-road. No floating cars. No clipping. Excellent damage detection.
Also enjoying the story during the career mode. Nice when the career gets "broken up" with side-challenges. Runnin' 68' Chargers wheel-to-wheel feels great. Still getting into the game, so I've not taken the time to accept other challengers, but this is neat stuff!
Anyway, don't profess to be a great game reviewer. But I *DO* enjoy great racing games. I've always loved the TOCA series and Codemaster's efforts. Codemasters has done it again...and now for the PS2.
Great game!
If you like racing, and you have a PS2, then you owe it to yourself to check out Pro Race Driver.
