Default PS2 - audio questions

unfamiliar with the PS2 audio jack for dolby digital signals. can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm looking for a way to either utilize a stereo component system with 5.1 or to just plug into my dolby 5.1 computer speakers - which works fine on my Apex dvd player ( but that dvd player sucks so...I want to use the PS2 ).

Thanks!

I'm not sure what your specific question is. The PS2 has a optical digital output (Toslink) on it for Dolby Digital. I've used it for copying cd's to minidisc, but never for Dolby Digital since my receiver is Pro-Logic. I do know that it puts out Dolby Digital and DTS signals when playing DVD's though.

I've been using the optical digital output on the PS2. I plug it in directly to dolby 5.1 pc speakers (Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500). It works out great.

Paul, that's what I'd like to do with my Altec Lansing ADA 880's that I have in my living room. *laughs* funny when I use my pc speakers for tele audio, but they ROCK! especially for the price.

the jack looks different though or am I just seeing things?

The PS2's jack has a hinged cover on it. Maybe that is what is making it look different to you. It's the standard size and a regular Toslink cable will fit right into it.

okay then, yea I tried pushing the darn jack into there and didn't seem to want to go because it looks like a standard jack but hmmmm, wouldn't connect. I'll try it again with force, and if not, the hammer should work.

You shouldn't have any trouble putting it in there. If you are, make sure you have it oriented the right way. It's not a square jack, so there's only one way for the plug to go in.
