Thumbs up quality earphones / headphones

I listen to alot of electronic music and time has come for me to switch out my old earphones for some new ones.

I'm looking to spend about $100~$150
preferrably earbuds (so I can goto the gym with it)
or headphones

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm sure if I spend $500 I can find the best quality, but there has to be cheaper ones that give superb sound for just an enthusiast.

At the top end of your range (from a discount vendor) I can recommend my Etymotic ER-4P's, if you like canal phones. Very clean sound and the standard triple-flange earpiece works welll for me.

Yah go with the in ear monitors (the ones that actually go inside the ear canal) best sound and best reduction of ambient noise, just be careful with the volume cuz u can easily shred your eardrums since they sit so close to them. i also recommend headphone.com, great place to do research and buy from, i have some grados and sennheisers from them

i have been buying sennheisers for the last 10 yrs. actually that only amounts to 3 headphones haha. but they're good. i have hd-595's right now, and they sound great. i used to have the cx300 earbuds, which were pretty good as well.

however, if you plan on going to the gym, i wouldn't recommend either. the first is too big, and the latter have sensitive wiring, and if you're moving a lot then anytime you touch the wiring the sound will transfer into your ears.

i have a pair
-they dont fall out, more wearable
-tight fit in your ear, risk of infection
-even with lo end sound drivers they sound good.

i had a pair made with more ridged plastic and they did not last but sounded better than the pair i have made of a totally soft plastic. they take a mold of your ear and make these custom fit. the soft plastic i can take apart and clean. ear curd wax accumulates in the sound driver and kills them.

great for a noisy environment or at the gym. commute to work on a sportbike?

watch out this post dont blow up, this is an area several forums members have stupid opinions
