BTW, do you and your wife speak chinese fluently? because most ABCs either have slight accents or just not fluent.

Very weird indeed, all I peel off is the bottom paper. I didn't know you can peel off the outer layer of the bun. Does she peel of the skin of an apple? I know many Asian do this.

I only peel the paper away. The skin-peeling sounds very OCD to me.

sometimes i get so excited about eating siopao (filipino version steamed bun) that i forget to peel the paper off. i get half way through and i'm like "oh shit... i just ate some paper."

with that said... if i remember, i'll peel the little paper off the bottom, but i've never peeled the actual outer layer off. that's my favorite part. what does she do with it when she peels it off??? throw it away!? filipinos don't waste food, we're too poor and we looooove our siopao.

I peel off the skin also when I saw my mom do it. She told me it's cleaner because if it's dropped at least you peal of the skin.

My GF doesn't do it and thought it was the weirdest thing.

I'm Cantonese and ABC - Fluent in cantonese, no accent.

Are you talking about bao? Chinese baos (buns) suck! They contain nothing but vegetables. Vietnamese baos are better, as they contain meat, sausage, etc.

What are you confused about? I was talking about the white steamed buns. The Chinese buns contain only vegetables, at least the ones I've eaten, and the Vietnamese buns contain meat and sausages.

I've had plenty from thoroughly non-Vietnamese places that were minced pork.
