I'm sitting here shaking my S400. I feel like such a DOOFUS!
Yeah, it rattles.

wow. we ALL have S400s? I just bought one recently too. do S2000 owners have any f*ckin individuality at all? I feel like a clone.

(that's me, 2nd from the right)

when I get home, I'll give it a little shake and let y'all know what I find.

Mine has no noise. I think yours is damaged. Trust me, engineers would not want a rattle as a feature.

But so far, 6 Canons rattle, plus the ones that Jibb looked at in the store.
ps. Mine has never been dropped and it works perfectly.

I've got a G3. There's a barely perceptible clicking sound when I shake the camera (from the extending lens?), but I'm not sure I'd call that rattling.

yes, mine "rattles" and it rattles in a very deliberate way, much like a small ball-bearing on a track.

I believe this is the camera-orientation sensor that automatically rotates pictures to the proper orientation, no matter whether you hold the camera with the left-side up, right-side up, or normally.

(p.s.-- my camera has never been dropped)

I was going to explain mine in the same manner - sounds like a very small ball bearing. Mine's not been dropped either as far as I'm aware.
