Reality Check...
Do I think traffic cops are assholes?... YES, I do. And YES, that's a stereotype...but how does a stereotype come to be?? It comes to be via repeatable actions by one group of people. So, yes - it's a stereotype - and it's well deserved, BY DEFINITION.
Ummm....isn't this the same as profiling?
This is profiling of THEIR profiling. Get it?? Every action has an equal an opposite reaction. Stop profiling me, and it follows that I will stop profiling you. Hey, they started it - now they have to finish it.
Bottom line here is that their profiling costs many many undeserving people lots of money and headaches.

No, I'm sure some cops are very nice. My friends father is a great person! Many officers take their job of 'serving and protecting' very seriously and I thank them for that. Traffic cops are put in a tough position. But hey, that should be their problem, not mine. I am not complaining about police officers in general, I am complaining about the system they endorse (speed limits) and the means by which they endorse it.

That did not come out in your original post. When I first read it, it seemed like your opinion of police, not your reaction to their profiling.
I don't know...maybe we have had better experiences with the police up here in Canada? BTW, I did not vote as I could not give a valid opinion of your police officers.

We are (or I'm lucky) here in NC. I do the usual 10 over the speed limit and have never been bothered in my S2000 or my truck. The time I was pulled in the S2000 for doing 15 over (gotta a little carried away one day) I was let go with just a "be careful".
I've only been ticketed twice by NC State Troopers and both times I was caught doing something really stupid. Once was blowing by a school bus as it was slowing to make a stop and another running a trooper off the road while I was passing another car. That last one isn't as bad as it sounds. He was pissed none the less.

"When a speed limit is to be posted, it should be the 85th-percentile speed of freeflowing
traffic, rounded up to the nearest 10 km/h (5 mph) increment.
Option:
Other factors that may be considered when establishing speed limits are the following:
A. Road characteristics, shoulder condition, grade, alignment, and sight distance.
B. The pace speed.
C. Roadside development and environment.
D. Parking practices and pedestrian activity.
E. Reported crash experience for at least a 12-month period."
- From "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Millenium Edition, Sec 2A
Just because you have a fast car does not give you the right to drive it faster than the law allows. If you get pulled over for speeding, it is because you were speeding and not because you were driving a sports car.
That response is completely ignorant. I consider it null & void.

Speed limits are set by engineers, not police officers or politicians.

I was once in traffic school where the instructor was a cop. Someone asked him if there were several cars together speeding, who would he pull over. His response: "The front car, the rear car, the red car, or the sports car. A red S would have a good shot at 3 out of 4.
When I got my first and only speeding ticket (so far), the cop told me that you can go 5 mph lower/above the speed that 85% of the people normally go on that certain road.
Speed limit - 50 mph
85% - 55 mph.
You can go 60 mph.
These are the exact words from the officer's mouth.
this was in Irvine on Irvine Blvd, between Yale and Culver. Reason it's 50 is because there's a school right next to the road and kids always cross that street. But what is annoying about the road is that there are A LOT of eucalyptus trees in a row and the sun light is constantly shining in your eye at quick increments, surprised nobody's had a seizure. I think the speed limits here in Irvine are fairly acceptable. I'm surprised in some places that the speed limits are what they are because they seem a bit faster than they should be, but I'm not complaining
