I'm not saying that every baby that is born to teenagers, or unplanned, etc will end up in prison, but the odds surely are against them. Research and common sense seems to indicate that children need to be raised by both parents, and the kids will learn something different from the father and the mother.

Go to your state prison. Ask the prisoners, especially those violent ones, not talking about the white collar criminals, how many of them were raised in what was once considered a "normal" home where they had both a father and mother present in their lives. I'm willing to bet most will say they're from dysfunctional families.
one parent, or two, is really inconsequential when evaluating the functionalilty of a family. that is solely contingent on the parents themselves. you generalize a lot...

Um, I take a lot of offense to your statements.

My GF is now 8 months pregnant. I was there, every night when she took her pill. She still got pregnant. She never missed one day, at all.
why are you offended? if what you're saying is true about your girlfriend taking her birth control every night, than i'm not saying anything you should be offended by. i'm making fun of people who are too irresponsible/incompetent to use their birth control correctly and think their birth control is going to be effective when they're missing doses left & right... not people who are pregnant in general. you used birth control and for whatever reason it didn't work. shit happens, there's nothing wrong with that. simmmmmmmmaaaaa down nah. (congratulations, by the way. and i really mean that... )

as for the "throwing rocks in the glass house" mr. pdx s2000... you're always playing devil's advocate with me! how hard is it to NOT drink & drive you ask...

ok, well this is how you end up being sloshed in the driver's seat....
buy 2 bottles of andre's pink blush champagne (2 for $7.99 at albertsons!)
go to friend's house and drink champagne
play a couple rounds of beer pong (and lose both times...)
have a couple coors light to quench your thirst
get in fight with ex-boyfriend
say "smell ya later..."
open door, sit in seat, start car... whaddya know?!
you're officially driving under the influence.

and this is how you end up pregnant...
forget to take your birth control... take it 10 hours later instead.
forget to take birth control again a couple days later...
meanwhile, inside the uterus, at just the right moment a little egg is released from the ovary...
at the precise timing you have sex with your boyfriend.
you make the decision to let him drop his load in you
semen makes harrowing journey up vaginal canal
past the cervix.......
swimming around........
where's that egg!?!
there it is!
all the lil guy's racing each other...
the "little sperm that could" finds ovary...
a zygote is formed...
all this time you probably could have been like "heyy... i'm going to take some plan b right about now..." but you don't.
a few weeks later you find out you're pregnant.

see the difference there? it's all about precise timing on the pregnancy thing, compounded by a series of bad decisions. drinking & driving does not require precise timing, and only consists of two bad decisions: drinking & driving. not that i'm advocating drinking & driving... it was a stupid stupid STUPID thing for me to do, but a much easier mistake to make than having an unplanned pregnancy.

*flame suit on* i'm going to get it now.........

so let me get this straight...being forgetful and subsequently irresponsible, is easier to do than being decisively irresponsible? umm, yeah. if you say so.

hmmm i don't know...? i'd say that an unplanned pregnancy requires most people to be decisively irresponsible just as much as, if not more than, drinking & driving.

everyone knows that the consequences of ANY pregnancy are life-altering. most people don't realize (probably because they're drunk) that the consequences of driving under the influence MIGHT be life-changing. might... a lot of people drive drunk and it doesn't end up having life-altering implications.

maybe all i'm really saying is that it's easier to find yourself in the situation of being drunk behind the wheel, than it is to get yourself pregnant. having an unplanned pregnancy is a series of bad decisions over time on the part of two people, coinciding with the precise timing of two different people's reproductive organs, with the knowledge that ALL pregnancies have definite consequences. and drinking & driving is the mistake of impairing your own ability to make good decisions, and then of course making a bad decision, which might or might not have a negative outcome. a lot of people make it home just fine (WHICH DOESN'T MAKE IT OKAY, by any means.... i'm just saying) does that make sense???

ugh... i opened up a giant can of worms and put them all in my mouth along with my foot, i think.

in any case, DON'T DRINK & DRIVE. and USE BIRTH CONTROL annnnddd WRAP YOUR TOOL.

I didn't know this was such a popular subject, but I've always kinda frowned upon girls whom i see at school or work and are pregnant. I just think its irresponsible to put yourself into that position for the rest of your life and not be starting out financially stable in exchange for a few minutes of pleasure. It takes two to have a kid, so I think the guy should be just as responsible every time as well - the more contraceptives, the better.
