even small bumps (especially if not hit exactly square on with the bumper) will cause the paint to evenytally start crack. Things like license plates and other sharp (or pronounced) parts of a bumper can do the same on impact.

My Prelude has some cracking paint on the bumper from a small bumper impact I was in. I didnt think much about it at the time, but now
