Default Registering a New Car (Used)

I'm buying my first used car & I'm a little confused about registering the vehicle. I'm buying a car from a private party. The seller is located in CT & I live in NJ. I'm getting a small loan from Bank of America. Since there will be a lien on the car, BOA will register the car to NJ DMV. The problem is that the BOA registration process has a turn around time of about 2weeks. I'm planning on picking up the car this weekend. Will I be able to drive the car w/ the seller's CT plates, while I wait for my temp tags to come in? Is this legal? Sorry for the dumb question.

BOA's doing the title and tag stuff? You should be doing that. It could be a little different in NJ but usually the title goes to the bank after the DMV does all their stuff. And I wouldn't drive on the sellers plates. If they let you, they're dumb.

You should get the title from the seller, get it registered at the DMV or title and tag place and they should help you through the getting the title to BOA part.
