I knew a guy who drove a taxi, an idiot road raged on him and smashed his windscreen, then refused to pay for the damage.

The guy followed the offender home and noted down his address.

The next day he showed up with two ex con friends, walked in and said "remember me?",
his friends then tied the guy to a chair and proceeded to pour gasoline around the house and on the guy saying that they were going to set the place on fire. The guys wife was crying and the guy was so scared he shat himself. He payed cash on the spot.

I bet he won't road rage ever again!

I would have had his ass hauled off to jail. He would of spent the holidays in jail with his new boyfriend. No one will kick my car and get away with it. If he would have went to jail he would know how to control his anger. It would have costed him jail fee, cout fee if it went that far and repair for your car.

Vigilante Justice...............sometimes the only way to go. I used to live in Albuquerque and the road rage there was pretty serious..............here in Ohio, it is not as bad. But it still happens. Some a$$holes tried to run my wife and kids off the road several years ago.........they were not successful . I have been flipped off and chased on a couple rare occasions..............best advise is to ignore road ragers, their condition is already unstable and lots of people carry guns nowadays in their cars. Just not worth the stress and trouble. Always remember............live to fight another day!

Thanks for all of your responses...I have to admit that I didn't expect this many...I just needed to vent. I made a split second decision on the scene that having the guy hauled off to jail wouldn't increase my chances of getting the damage fixed by him. A criminal court can't make him pay for it (except for jail) so I would have to sue him anyway. The court/lawyer fees would then be more than the repair bill. So, I made a leap of faith...I figure what comes around go around. He will get what he deserves one way or another, and I got to hold his future in my hands.

WOW, you wer very kind and generous. If someone had done that to my car and thretened me, I would've filed charges. He must've tried really hard to persuade you not to have him hauled off by the police.

I would have at least made him give me his insurance information. He should have to supply the same information you would want if you had been in an actual accident with him. Of course, I would have had him taken to jail too.

That's why everytime I overtake someone, I make sure that the person can't catch me! I just keep going.

I have a friend that at one time punched holes in a guys car door with a knife because the guy opened his truck door on his mercedes and dinged it while my friend was in his car. What is the guy gonna do, fight back with my friend that just punched holes in his truck with a knife? My friend has some issues!

There are a lot of inconsiderate and crazy people out there. What you did was the absolutely right thing. What makes you think that the guy isn't gonna come looking for your car and doing worse if you did press charges. As long as he agreed to pay for the damages. If not, slap him with whatever fine you can.

Holy crap, I have to agree with some of the others here, it was great of you to make the choice of letting him go but I'm not sure I could have done the same. The pure adrenaline of the moment and the dent in my door would have probably been to much for my good side to come out....

Sorry to hear about the door....

I hate these situations. They happen too frequently. But this clown deserved to get what was coming to him. Especially if he backed down like that, I would have jumped down his throat once he showed fear. Let his trip to court keep him seat belted in his car next time.

You made a good move, calling the cops, and remaining calm. Well done!
