rolex band or fakie?
fake! not just by the band but by the back of the watch, rolexes don't have those grooves to open the back.
Those grooves are for battery operated watches and if you didn't know, rolex does not have batteries and is an automatic watch.

^ agree 100%...well almost 100% the groves can come on other types of watches which are auto (they're just a different design from the rolex), and the oyster quartz series never had that band on them. I'm pretty sure anyone with a Tag 2000 exclusive auto has those groves on the caseback.
also unless the watch is an explorer I, no other watch that shape is going to have a sport type oyster band. That particular type of band has the continuous design and would have come on the explorer I/II, sub, seadweller, and GMT.
oddly enough the band could be genuine lol it doesn't look like it lines up with the case lugs exactly. Care to show us the front side?
p.s. sorry if any of my information is a little off...I'm studying for finals as we speak hahaha just trying to pull what I know out of my head
edit: your title and your post just confused me...do you want to know if we can tell if the entire watch isn't genuine from looking at the band? or do you want to know if simply the band itself is genuine? hahaha sorry if I'm not reading correctly, just wanted to clarify
