Default Roomate Problems.. Please help..

Roomate Problems.. Please help..
Basically i live in an apartment with two other people who'm they share a room.
Well they decided to move down to LA for school.. One was good and sorta paid me rent for this month.. Even though he is moving out around the 15th.

The other one bailed out and went on vacation with his parents.
He left his stuff here and my roomate made contact with him stating that he needs to pay this months rent. He questioned why he had to pay.. and i still havent heard from him after my roomate instructed him to call me.

His stuff is still here!@!! and he thinks he doesnt have to pay for this months rent.
He signed the release stating that he will be out by the 5th of Aug. and so did my other roomate... well the one that paid is still here.. the one that didnt left on the 9th and didnt pay squat.
The roomate that bailed owns me a lot
here is the total:
10 months of unpaid electricity $30 per month his share $300
Broke my 17 inch black TFT Monitor ($1200)
Has 3 of my cellphones
-8260 (2)
-3360

I would be happy recuperating that..
There is a ton of small stuff that would probably add another $400 to it.

What should i do?
He took all the important stuff with him.. i.e. computer/tv.. his bed is still here and some clothes.
what should i do to recover my financial lost. Im not in the best of financial situation here too!

If it were me, and this is kind of mean, I would take the rest of his belongings and stash them somewhere he can't get to. Talk to him about the situation and see if he wants his stuff back in return for what he owes you. If it doesn't work out, sell all the stuff and try to get *some* money back.

Which brings me to a point when I lived with my girlfriend (at the time) and another couple. We got on bad terms with them (can't remember the details). We tried killing their plants with chlorox bleach on a daily basis for weeks.... but the damn plant kept growing!!! Looking back on it now makes me laugh. Just had to share that one with you. Hopefully it will brighten your day.

Stashing his stuff might be illegal because he could charge you with theft. You should call the police and have him arrested for breaching his contract.

Take him to small claims, lock the stuff up for failure of payment. Last resort but you can do it sometimes.

Unsure how your lease agreement is signed but if you are the primary then you owe the money and it's your job to collect.
But if all three of you are on the lease then he has to come back and sign out of the lease or in breaking the contract he will owe the leaser quite a bit of cash if there are fees written into the contract. Talk to your landlord, pay your 1/3 if thats how it's seperated and hand the stuff over to him, they have a lot more legal recourse then you because of the contract your moron roomate signed.

I did the that exactly...
the landlord is understanding because i have always paid on time.. maybe they pitty me.. or they are just nice over the missing $600 bucks.
He already signed the contracted stating he would leave by the 5th of this month. My roomate that did pay
said he was planning on leaving his bed.. WTF
AM I maid .. i have to clean up his Sh!t so someone else can move in??? ? ?
He still has a set of keys and the garage opener..

Can anyone pass on any legal advise.. small claims court does sound reasonable...
This guy is a human sponge!

Even if you don't have receipts, you had the items and you just need to furnish evidence to support your claim. Get reprints of any bills, find out the replacement cost of any items that were damaged and/or taken and take him to court.

You might also consider contacting his parents. They may not be deadbeats like he is and may not know he's acting this way. Can't hurt...
