The Gulf War proved that fast and low doesn't work. Pitty we lost a lot of Tornados to prove it.

B1B - Warsaw Pact Urban Renewal
I'm pretty sure the B1B would have done just fine penetrating the USSR airspace - remember they used to carry SRAM's that would have suppressed the guys on the ground just fine...
Once behind the picket fence of ground radar installations I doubt the older Soviet AWACS would have picked them up again.
Off Topic I know but I sure think it is one pretty aircraft even if its original role was a little drastic.
BTW has anyone seen the footage of B2s demonstrating/practicing conventional munition drops on the news? Pretty impressive stuff, looked a lot light B52Ds flying Arc light missions. Looked like 50+ Mk82's on one drop
I was able to some of the strategic strike missions of the B-52s in action. There power is immense. Think about this. Take a 1 mile long swath about 1/4 mile wide and just make it disappear. That's the capability of just one. Put a squadron together and you can't believe the devastation. 2x6sps, thanks for the pictures. These bring back some really great memories of my military days. The Canberra was also configured in a reconnaissance configuration with about double the wing capacity. Quite maneuverable for a bird of it's size and great high altitude characteristics. The Constellation was used as Air Force One for I believe Eisenhower. The original Air Force One has been restored by a private owner. The last remaining XB-70 is on display at the Air Force Museum in Fairborn, Ohio. It's incredible! I got a chance to look inside when they originally put it on static display. Better than Mach III+. Altitudes in excess of 80K+, unbelievable.
For all you aircraft buffs I recommend that you take a visit to the Museum at least once in your life. It's worth the trip. Everything from the Wright Brother aircraft to John Glenns Mercury Capsule. So much more!
Special thanks for the Convair B-58 Hustler 2x6spds. Beautiful aircraft! Flew like a fighter. Was capable of Mach number in excess of Mach 2 at low altitude. In fact it was faster than most of the fighter aircraft of it's time.
The AV8B, Harriers are one of a kind and have time and time again show there worth as a close in strike aircraft. People talk about the Cobra maneuver that the variable exhaust Mig can do but they can't come close to what the new supersonic Harriers are capable of. Pinnacle of British aviation.

Hi JRM
I agree with your taste in aircraft. As to the rest, we don't really have to pluck out our eyeballs and become stupid do we? The thing about the dusty letter is it was sent before September 11! Thanks for the url, Tanq.

Time to dust it off and place it out prominently where it can been seen by all.

Home Guard program has officially begun. I hope we are able to educate people on what to be aware of. Education is a great tool to dispel myth. If we teach people they will become less frightened and able to function more effectively from day to day. You wouldn't believe the phone calls we are receiving. But that's ok, I've been expecting this to happen. Sometimes it take things like this to wake people up. Freedom has one price and that's constant vigilance. Thank God, for our military and their vigilance.

2x6- Great pictures. But where are the labels?
Is that airliner a Lockheed Constellation? What about the Comet? She was beautiful.

Hi AusS2000
Starting from the top
1 Avro Vulcan - Delta Wing British Bomber
2 Avro Vulcan
3 TU-95, NATO designation - Bear
4 TU 95 (145)
5 XB70, 2 built, one lost in photo shoot when it collided with I believe a T5
6 B-58 Hustler
Second Post
1 B-57 Canberra (British design) for some reason really loud
2 Lockheed Constellation in Air France livery (early model)
3 Supermarine Spitfire
At the Edwards AFB air show two years ago, there was a low flyby of a B1, a B2, and a B52 in tight formation. That was impressive! It was also the public flying debut of the F22 Raptor next generation stealth/air superiority fighter. Anyone else see that show?

... what a buzz that must have been.
