Right, therefore, step number one, make the radar screens go away.

Bit of a large coffin for the crew when going against any enemy with a defense in depth capability.

The Gulf War proved that fast and low doesn't work. Pitty we lost a lot of Tornados to prove it.

Yes, it is a white elephant but it has served a purpose. The venerable B-52, has been a varible gold mine in comparison. The H model has been upgraded with up-to-date avionics, engines, and ECM (Electronic Counter Measures). I think Boeing had no idea that it would exceed their airworthness expectations. With 275,000lbs of fuel it could have literally flown from the US to Afganistian and back without a refuel.

With the capability of air launch cruise missiles it is a stand off weapon that cannot be hit by convertional weaponary. It's a hell of a low level attack weapon also. It's not supersonic but with cruise speeds in excess of 600 it is a can go, do all weapons platform. <Big Bada Boom> I wouldn't want to be underneath it when it drops it's payload. Altitude ceiling is somewhere around 55,000ft +.

Soften them up and then pound them in close with A-10, F15 Strike Eagles and F16s. Apaches and Harriers from the Marines and Army (1st Cavalary). Then comes the Abrahms with it's pinpoint accuracy. Followed by 50,000 Screamin Marines. That's enough for anyone to Spit their pants. I would have to say that some people won't get any sleep for awhile.

Right, therefore, step number one, make the radar screens go away.
DONE! You can't hit what you can't see. If you've noticed, I don't believe that there ar any hardened shelters or hardened available bunkers. Just holes and tunnels in rock. Ever see what a cruise missile or laser guided bomb can do to something like this? Let's just say it would be a ready made tomb. Pucker up Bin Lauden, daddys got a little supprise for you.

Careful, that may be political

Now that would be embarrasing, deleting your own thread because of your own post.....

Someone, anyone, define political for me. If it's that offensive to some, (i.e. those living outside US borders, taliban idiots etc.) why don't we have a political board. We satisfy everyone. S2K owners who proclaim disinterest in current events, S2k owners who give a ____ and S2k owners defined as those who are truly fact-disabled.

P.S. I didn't put Bush in office but I believe he and his adminstration are doing a hell of job right now.

P.S.S. OBL = Aerosmith's "Dude, look like a lady"

Now you notice that I didn't say who! But if I do, I'll DELETE IT! Actually the B-1B is quite stealthy and has a cross section of the size of a pigeon on radar. Alas, it's no longer capable of Mach numbers. It's fuslage is patterned after the only medium supersonic bomber ever produced, the Convair B-58 Hustler. Now there was a hell of a bomber. My favorite. In fact their are still a fleet of them in mothballs at Davis Mothan AFB.

Kinda like your Vulcan Bomber! Another favorite of mine!

A very large, fat pigeon by any chance?

Perhaps one with a metal ID tag?

Pigeon tags.... Uhm....

BTW I thought the F117 had a x-section like a pigeon. Bloody strange pigeons in the states. I've not come across a triangular pigeon before

Actually the 117 has a cross section more akin to a sparrow. The B58 Hustler held the transcontinental speed record - I think some hopped up Crusader took it away. The Vulcan may have looked a bit like the end of the world, but it is beautiful - looks sinister even in white.

Afghanistan does not have any real air defense, nothing like Baghdad. The most serious threat will be from the shoulder mounted stinger missiles which the US evidenced an enormous brain fart by giving hundreds to the opposition during the Russian war.

My view, in bullet format:
The Stingers are credited with defeating the Russians in Afghanistan.
The Russian loss in Afghanistan is credited with convincing both the Soviet people and the Communist Party that Soviet expansionism was dead.
The death of Soviet expansionism was the death knell for the Soviet Union, causing its dissolution and the end of the Cold War.
The Cold War could have ended a hundred different ways, with most ending in millions of casualties. I am happy that we gave out 1000 Stingers (the actual number) and caused the Cold War to end in a fizzle instead of a bang.
If we lose 10 fighters to Stingers, it will not change my view on this subject.
