Just having it out doesn't mean you have to use it if there are better options that don't involve getting someone else's blood all over your stuff. If you can't pull the trigger though, you're better off with a handful of cooked spaghetti than a gun.

I am a noob at lock picking, and I can pop my front door lock AND deadbolt in 15 minutes on a bad day. On a good day, I can get them open in less than a minute each. the "rake" tool + a good tensioner + a little luck on a worn out lock is too easy.
Remember though, most robbers dont go through doors - windows are much easier to break into, normally, and robbers arent stupid. Good alarm system + dogs + a one sideded deadbolt (close only when you're home) is probably your best bet.

Boy I am sure glad I gave rational advice in here. there seems to be some retardation on both sides of the fence in this thread.

In my state, if the perp is IN your house, (not running out or on your property) it's open season to use deadly force if you felt that your life was in danger. If someone breaks into my house, I have no idea whether they want my life of my laptop, so I arm and protect myself for the worst case.
