[QUOTE=Angerman,Nov 22 2010, 07:48 PM] It has been proven that all a burglar needs to do is give a dog treats to move his mind from whats going on.

[QUOTE=NuncoStr8,Nov 22 2010, 08:26 PM] A lock just keeps honest people honest. When you kick in a door, you tear the doorframe from the surrounding studs or tear through the inside of the frame around the bolt. It takes with it the deadbolt. The lock is irrelevant.

Great idea. So when he's in prison, he calls his friends to kill your wife and kids.
Joke's on them- I'm single!

A few of the main things taught in Concealed Carry Weapon class are:

"Never draw your weapon if you don't plan on using it."
and
"Shoot to kill."
"Shoot to kill" sounds like a great way to earn yourself a long-ass vacation behind bars.

"Sir, what was your immediate thought when the man picked up your TV?"

"Shoot to kill."

"I rest my case."

Feel free to "shoot to kill" if you want, good luck with that if it ever comes down to it. I'd much rather say: "My life was in grave danger, and I shot to stop the threat."

Also, I prefer "Never draw your weapon unless you're ready and willing to use it." Just having it out doesn't mean you have to use it if there are better options that don't involve getting someone else's blood all over your stuff. If you can't pull the trigger though, you're better off with a handful of cooked spaghetti than a gun.

I am a noob at lock picking, and I can pop my front door lock AND deadbolt in 15 minutes on a bad day. On a good day, I can get them open in less than a minute each. the "rake" tool + a good tensioner + a little luck on a worn out lock is too easy.

Remember though, most robbers dont go through doors - windows are much easier to break into, normally, and robbers arent stupid. Good alarm system + dogs + a one sideded deadbolt (close only when you're home) is probably your best bet.

Boy I am sure glad I gave rational advice in here. there seems to be some retardation on both sides of the fence in this thread.

anyone who shoots a person carrying a TV or running out of the house is a stone cold idiot...

However, some states allow you to use deadly force in the protection of your property, that is why it is imperative you read and fully understand the laws in your state. Know your rights, people.

Which is exactly right. When YOU are TAUGHT, you are taught shoot to kill. When the cops ask questions, you say "I was in fear for my life."

In my state, if the perp is IN your house, (not running out or on your property) it's open season to use deadly force if you felt that your life was in danger. If someone breaks into my house, I have no idea whether they want my life of my laptop, so I arm and protect myself for the worst case.
