Default Sell it or keep it???

I'm curious what other people might think.

I'm mechanically inclined enough to handle a medium project but I'm not capable of diagnosing problems and I sure don't have an unlimited budget.

I own a '90 CRX-Si that I bought back in '91, it has 88,000 miles, has not been driven in the winter since '92 and is in great shape. I have added about $4,500 in performance upgrades to it and it is a blast to drive. I love the little beast!

I have an S2000 coming in April. I also own a Nissan pickup and a Honda motorcycle. I suspect once the S2000 shows up I will not be driving the CRX-Si much this year!

Originally I had thought I would keep the CRX-Si and just put it in the back of garage. The thought was after 7 years I could pull it out, do a few minor mechanical things and drive it once in a while as a 20-year-old classic and have some fun with it, by 2010 I don't suspect there will be many around!

The second thought was that after 7 years it would take lots more than simple mechanical stuff to get it going and it would just become a money pit.

So, should I sell it now while it is in great shape and very dependable or should I put it in storage and see what happens in 7 years or so?

If I sold it I could use the cash, but I don't need the cash. I have the space to store it so that is a non-issue.

Any thoughts?

Cedric, you are right, it is sentimental.
It is the original Triple-H.
I have had so much fun with that darn thing I hate to get rid of it, sort of feels like I'm divorcing it for absolutely no reason what so ever.

O.K. Look at this way, after 7 years, it will be a $hit tip with chickens and mice nesting in it! It's given you good service why not give some poor sod who can't afford an S2000, the chance to drive a decent car he can afford, and who will probably look after it a lot better than you will once you get your new baby? The best bit is you get to spend the cash on goodies for the S2000!

Ya see, what you are mentioning is what I'm starting to think is the way to go, but the idea of getting rid of such a great car kind of hurts. I think about all the other cars I have let go in this lifetime and there are a few I would really love to have back. Am I just getting overly emotional here or what?
Would it be worth anything in 2010 if it were in great shape or is this totallly the wrong car to hold onto for an "antique" someday?

Mmm well I've had some great cars, but the one of got fondest memories of is my Daytona yellow Ford Capri V6 3000 GT. God I loved that car! It was a beast in it's day, but the truth is it was a sledgehammer to crack a nut compared to the S2000, and engines in those days were pretty primitive, with dated ignition systems by todays standards. I doubt it would be worth a fat lot today although they still have a following of enthusiasts. It's a difficult choice for you obviously. It wouldn't be for me.

I agree with Cedric. Sh*tcan the antique. I was at the LA Auto Show yesterday. Over 1,000 vehicles. It's mind boggling whats out there. Come to the 21st Century.

Triple-H, storing a car for that amount of time is just asking for trouble unless you drive it at lease every 1~2 months to keep fluids moving and things lubricated. If you store for solid 7 years, they you will have dry rotted seals, rubber, bad fluids, and all sorts of problems. Find a caring owner who will appreciate the car as you did. The value in 2010 probably will actually be less , even though it is a classic. You would be hard pressed to find a person looking for a Japanese classic car unless you are in a densly populated Japanese area of the country. I say sell it.......................

Yeah let it go man!

You never know, some kid might buy it, spend a pile of money getting it to a 10 second car and have it end up in The Fast and the Furious 2. Atleast you could pretend

You and I have the same year truck, the same colour S2k....I'd do it

Wow- maybe you guys are right! Maybe I will spend 1/2 of what I get for it on the S2000???

I guess the next riddle will be what I should get for it?

Anybody else out there who wants to say keep it and has a strong rationale for why?
