I hate the traffic comming out of my neighborhood. When I hit the beltway...it's autobahn time. This morning as I was in 3rd geat approching 90MPH...I see the top lights on a police car as I come over a blind rise. I practically stomp on the brakes and was going about 80MPH when I could see the radar device in the rear window of the squad car.

Luckily the squad car didn't pull me over. Maybe he was taking a nap...or maybe he just took down my license plate to send me a ticket in the mail.

 

I get that sometimes too and your heart starts pounding mad.

 

ouch, reminds me of the time when they *started* patrolling 59 South. believe it or not, there was a time, back when it was only three lanes and not seven, where 80+ was the minimum speed to stay alive! one friend of mine merely got a warning for 120+ one evening - but the officer was almost off duty and my friend really didn't have a reason to be speeding, so through his honesty and his concern for the officer (he said he was looking for a safe place to pull over) the officer let him go.

so..back when they started patrolling, do they still have their little scheme where they setup one guy on one side of the freeway and another on your side. the first guy hits you with radar - and you think 'duh...he's on the other side' and then you go over the next overpass and the next officer (on your side of the freeway) pulls you over!

the beltway on the other hand...yes, autobahn!

 

I've done the same thing multiple times. Merge onto a highway, hit 80 or so in third, get ready for that shift, see a cop car, and stomp on that brake pedal. Gees, what a waste.
