Should the Brazilian Marathon Runner be awarded a
no, he shouldn't be given the gold, but he should have a chance to kick that guys ass.......damn a 46 second lead down to 3rd.....I'd be pissed
but he was a good sport about it, he is honored with respect by not bitching about it so, go him

There was a bike cop about 12 feet behind the brazilian runner Why didn't this cop see the guy running across and speed up or run over him with his bike...
I think the brazilian was getting caught anyway, but that certainly didn't help his physical or mental game.....
Just the idea of stopping during a running race throws your muscles out of whack.... look at the winner...he couldn't even stand back up by himself after the race was over....... and he didn't even get shoved and held.
Should there be a second gold? Probably not.... very glad he got 3rd though, which is where he most likely would have finished anyway.

I think the bike cop was about 25 feet from the runner. He probably was more focused on the closest spectators to the runner's right side, and didn't see the intruder approaching from the left. Nonetheless, it took about 10 seconds to detach the spectator from the runner.
With a 26 mile route to secure it is virtually impossible to make sure that people can't breach the barriers without spending a huge sum of money on the security .... you can only take security so far. The alternative would be to run it round the track in an enclosed stadium ... that way security would be much easier, but would people have preferred that?!
why would a guy (Corneious Horan) try to ruin someone's olympic quest for a gold metal? That guy probably trained every day for the past 3 years+ and that dickhead potentially f'd it up in a matter of seconds.
They really should do something like cut his legs off and not allow him to use a wheel chair...

The marathon is by nature a road event. A hundred laps of an indoor track wouldn't be the same, even though the distance would be the same. Is World Rally the same league as those tracked "ff road events?"
To secure the course would require 52.4 miles of impenetrable, unclimbable fencing. Having watched many (and run 5) marathons, there's no guarantee that a lead with two miles to go will result in a victory. Some people fade in the last miles, having put out too much energy earlier in the race, others have conserved for the kick.
It's also one of those events that is judged solely on who finishes first. No degree of difficulty, no judges to be bought off. No better or worse lane assignments, no false starts, no multiple tries. Just first in gets gold, second gets silver, third gets bronze. Some years ago, someone crashed into one of the lead women at New York. At Boston, crowd control is excellent but spectators still cross during competition.
