Should I be worried about who's next door?

Yeah, well I don't want to live in a world where people fly planes into buildings, but we can't all have sunshine and rainbows, you know?

To the original poster, If you had balls, you would have became friends with your own neighbors and see who they are and why they don't have garbage service.
The original poster DOES have balls. He posted up here looking for other opinions on what to do about the situation, knowing full well that he would set some people off. Yeah, it's a touchy subject, and I'm sure he wishes he didn't have to deal with it. But rather than play the "maybe if I ignore it, it will go away" card, he had the balls to bring it up knowing he would probably get some detractors.

Maybe they are not aware they should or they may have language problems. In which case you could use your skills to help them out as a friend, than complain about them on an online forum like a pussy, or worse, an enemy. Someone should raise the question on the kind of human being you are.
He's not complaining like a pussy OR an enemy. He's simply raising a question of what the rest of us would do in this case, which in my book makes him a decent human being. Judging from your responses to this thread, I'm sure you would label him as someone who is too quick to jump to false conclusions. However, by chastizing the man without even correctly interpreting his true intentions, you are more guilty of that than anyone else.

You know what, screw being PC. If you've got a worry call it in. Babak, you stated that when Americans go to the M.E. they should blend in and not call out attention to themselves. Why the hell shouldn't these guys do the same here?

By not having garbage service, no window coverings, being up all night, little to no interaction with neighbors, you're NOT blending in with your surroundings here. You ARE therefore calling out attention to yourselves and people will followup accordingly.

To the OP, YES followup and get ppl involved if your gut senses something's just not right.

I hate all this BS PC crap, it's just that attitude of not wanting to "offend" people that has gotten us into so much crap.

I'm of Indian decent and unfortunately can be profiled at airports etc. I don't mind, I actually am encouraged that people are doing their jobs. Is it and inconvenience? YES. Is it at times embarrassing? YES. However right now we've got no clue how to stop the next big terrorist attack. If profiling and being vigilant helps even a litte, I'm all for it.

I wouldn't want to live in a world where extremists fly planes into buildings but unfortunately I do. 9/11 only happened 5 years ago. All Americans should remain alert to their surroundings and vigilant at all times.

^^LOL. I'm sure it was a simple slip up, but that extra "E" on the end of "vigilant" isn't going to help your cause .

Let me ask the OP something.....do these guys have jobs? Do they leave the house at a certain time, and come back a little while later?

Also, assuming your house is 80% or more alike to theirs, what is the value of the house?

I find it funny, that people watch this stuff on tv and say things like "wow honey, i cant believe these people lived within that community, what are the odds of that?".....but for some reason, believe that their area is immune to this. The human mind is a funny thing sometimes.

My next door neighbor is of Persian descent, as they prefer to be known, and she thinks it's weird as well. She suggested reporting them.

I have an acquaintence who is a hard core Muslim so I asked him. He said even a dumb camel jockey would know better than to live like that and he suggested reporting them. If they had any women then there definitely would be curtains. If they veil their women and cover their hair just think of what they'd think of you accidentally seeing one of them nakie?

Here are a couple of scenarios that might make sense other than just plain weird or terrorist cell.

1) They are short time in the country, therfore the lack of "civilized life" and 2) they have brought money into the country to invest. Bringing funds in to invest is a pretty common thing. I have a friend who "fronts" for a lot of Italian money. She gets to live a great lifestyle and her job is to find ways to use up other people's money. Tough life!

If you went to a foreign country would you blend in right from the get-go?

It's a fact of life that not everyone "appreciates" appreciates the American lifestyle and wouldn't mind putting us in our place. As others have said a Tip won't hurt anything if there are no issues, but if it is more than just weirdness then everyone will appreciate the heads up. Many of the terrorists have been caught by just those types of calls.

And as to should you be worried about who's next door? DEFINITELY!

Your neighbors help determine yoru property values and desirability of the neighborhood as well as your well being.

Would you knowingly live next door to a serial killer? Just up the street from me a man brought in a Russian mail order bride and her 16 year old daughter. The enterprising daughter promptly started her own business selling it on the street corner and doing drugs in the backyard of their neighbor's house (so mommy wouldn't know). Took us a year, but after numerous complaints the police investigated and now she is out of the neighborhood, hopefully in jail.

Wow...lots of responses all over the map. Look guys, i didn't start this thread to have people calling each other names and what not.

To clarify a few things:

1) Being that our homes are 10 ft apart from their wall to our wall, we are in very close proximity of each other. I don't sit by the window hours at a time and stare into their home. It's just what i've noticed opening/closing my windows, or looking in that direction from somewhere in my home throughout the 6 months since i've lived there.

2) I've seen them praying throughout the night/day and they are dressed in the attire so i'm assuming that they are muslim. I apologize if this is an incorrect assumption and if I had offended someone.

3) I'm not saying that ALL muslims are terrorists, so please do not take this as if I had singled them out. That's why I debated on whether or not to even put down race/religion/faith. Would you guys have thought different if I listed something else?

4) I believe they drive a TL and an Accord.

5) I've never seen anyone else in their home except for the two of them. No visitors, no friends, no one ever parked in front of their home (Maybe they're throwing parties when i'm at work?) who knows.

6) When I first moved in, the mailman delivered one piece of mail belonging to them to our address. I walked over there, both of them answered the door. I kindly introduced myself and gave them their letter back. They didn't introduce themselves nor did they thank me. They nodded and quickly closed the door. Oh well, i didn't think anything of it.

How am I complaining about them? I had some concerns and wanted to know other people's opinions.

At what point would you call someone? Would you wait until you actually see something in the act, then call it in?

Anyhow, I'm going to talk to the neighbor that lives next to them and go from there. I've got a buddy that's a sheriff but I don't want to really say anything to him yet. Maybe i've got the picture all wrong. (hopefully)

We live in a different time where we have to be alert about our surroundings. I don't think I could ever forgive myself if something did happen knowing that it could have possibly been prevented with a simple call.
Crickey, I am glad you don't live next door to us!!

10 feet is quite a distance.

How would you like it if someone was noising around your business?

To my knowledge, it doesn't look like it.

The model that they bought was close to $800K

10 feet isn't a lot of distance at all. It's from their house wall to our house wall. We have a zero lot land, so side yards are shared on the same property.

Am I in their business? I don't believe so. These are just observations that I've made living there. Are you trying to tell me that you can't tell me 5 things about your neighbor that you've observed?
