I think the ultimate weapon of the true stealth slacker is a well-trained secretary.

I don't do much slacking, since I bill by six minute increments. Oh well, some day.

I commonly get a friend to shut down my machine and make it look like I just left when I have really been gone for an hour or more.
You can do this without a friend...just go to your "power options" and set the computer to go to standby after 90 minutes or so. Not that I would have any experience with this slacking stuff... Who am I kidding? I work from home, so my stook get a wax job more than I have sex...

I set a new record this morning. I get into my office, blew through the handful of useless emails and I'm on the forum in 4 minutes! Life is good...

I drove Scarlet out today (we're going to the "Spa" <King Motorsports> today... ) and I parked on the 4th floor of the garage. I was bummed, we only set off 4 car alarms on the way up. Oh well, there's always next week.

Greg,

the 4th floor is REAL dangerous to be parking Scarlet there. You should venture up to the 5th floor and park there. There are more people on that floor that care about there cars....my usual habit is to park near either of the two Impala's (the last generation's muscle), the IS300, the black C5, the S4, or the NSX owner.....those owners are real cool, and they look out for their cars as well as others.

I wish I could slack off. I just got a few extra minutes here and this is a really funny post.
My suggestion, talk the boss into an S2K and you won't have to slack off. Hey wait a minute I am the boss, and I have an S2k. I think I'll go for a ride!

Here's my recipe:

1. Leave lights on 24-7 (who the hell cares, you don't pay the power bill there)

2. Computer always on (see item 1 on power saving)

3. Always carry a file folder, notebook, pencil, or book or all.

4. Never talk on the phone without a pencil and notepad. Alway talk with your back hunched over your desk as if you are taking down notes. I've done this for 45 minutes at a time while talking to friends, and my notebook has all kinds of neat doodles and patterns on it.

5. When writing email or posts for the forum, do it in Word or similar word processing program so it looks like you're writing a report. When you are finished, cut and paste it into your email program or onto the web forum.

6. Even if you are just surfing the web, do not expand the window so it covers the whole screen. Open tons of other programs and layer them underneath so that it is not readily apparent that you are surfing the web. Passerby's will have to look closely to see what program you are actually using.

7. Desk must always be messy. This is a must

8. If you work in engineering like I do, leave huge full sized plan sheets, unrolled and unraveled all over your desk so it looks like you are working on an important design, when in reality, they are just blueprints of a 90 year old building that has nothing to do with you company.

9. Post it notes everywhere, on the cubicle/office walls, the sides of the monitor, everywhere.

10. Write down lots of phone numbers on bits of paper and notespads and leave them scattered about.

11. Try to get assignments in multiple offices so no one really knows where you are at any given time.

12. I've found that with our PC's, you have to log in to the network. When you are not using your computer, you get logged out, and this login/logout window, shows up on the screen, so people know whether you are there or not. because of this, I just turn the monitor off when I'm not around so the screen is black. At first glance, this could look like the "starfield simulator" screen saver, set to the minimal number of stars.

13. Never smile or look happy. People will automatically assume you are not working, since that's what makes people happy in the first place.

14. Don't stay at your desk for long periods of time. People will get used to seeing you there and the times you do leave, it will be very obvious. If you have a mysterious schedule, it will be harder for people to figure out where you are and/or what you are doing.

Thats all for now.
