OK but still is Plasma a better technology than LCD?
What is this "better" crap? If it looks good to you, and you've done as much homework as you can, what does it matter?

I'm feeling a rant coming on. . .

You're not going to get a straight response Ev. It comes down to how much you want to spend.

I'd go out and pick out 3-5 models in your price range and them bring those back to us and get some opinions. Also check out the forums at www.avsforum.com they have product specific threads for all of the current LCDs and Plasma panels.

IMO, DLP > plasma for simple fact you dont have to replace the gas and also deal with slow degradation of color once gas starts running low.

DLP - Has the best $$$/Inch, they have smaller foot prints now but don't get as bright and even as a LCD or Plasma will.

That being said from all the research I've done if you're buying a TV 50in and under go LCD. 50in and over go Plasma.

1080p is a complete waste of money since they only thing that will play those resolutions = Blu Ray and PS3. From 10 ft back you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, 1080i might have rendering issues with fast action sports, but I've never read any solid complaints.

This is my limited understanding, and I currently own a 42 inch plasma, a HD 55 inch rear projection a 20 inch LCD and will be purchasing a 65-73 inch DLP soon. I don't think I am biased, but, well, whatever.....

When flat screens first came out you had plasma generally at about 40 inches and above and LCD's covered small screen sizes. It was my understanding at the time of introduction, that there was a technological barrier with LCD's that prevented them from delivering a quality picture in sizes larger than about 25 inches. What that barrier was, I don't know, lets say it had a bad dohickey. This technical issue has been worked out a few years ago and now LCD's can compete with plasma's for picture quality in larger screen sizes.

With that said, LCD has a big advantage in that it does not suffer from "burn in " of static images, but this was more a problem with early plasmas and seems to have been worked out as well. I also think LCD power consumption is lower. LCD tend to have a smaller viewing angle on average, meaning if you go to one side of the screen with many LCD's the colors look goofy and you eventually can't see the picture. This does not happen with plasma's.

Now for my personal opinion, I think there is give and take with either set but I PREFER the picture quality of plasma's as it appear to me to have better color contrast and a slight sharness advantage. If I was going to do heavy viedo gaming and was worried about burn in, I would trade the slightly better picture and buy LCD just to be safe.
