I think Plasma overall has better image quality: higher contrast, darker black, shows gray gradient better

If you take a top of the line plasma (Pioneer Elite or whatever), top of the line LCD, and top of the line DLP, the plasma will beat them all.
I'd agree, but you don't even need to go top of the line plasma vs. the best LCD in the large sizes because solid mid-level sets are excellent.

Lots of people go to Best Buy or Sears and don't see that plasma are much better than LCD because they sell a lot of cheap plasmas. The $1500 costco plasma does not look that sharp because it is a $1500 costco set. And sometimes the picture can look muddy in the store because they are not running a high quality video source.

I don't have the kind of cash to drop on a Pioneer Elite plasma, but those things are plain orgasmic.

Something must be wrong with my eyes. Every time I go to look at HDTVs, I scan the available options without looking at what type of TV it is. Without fail, I am always drawn to the picture quality of LCDs. To me, they look more sharp, more crisp. I see much better brightness and contrast on LCDs. That's the case no matter where I go. Plasmas look good, too, but they just don't have the same brightness, sharpness, or color saturation. My wife's eyes agree. I'm surprised that most people here prefer plasmas.

LCDs are often on super bright mode in the store.. I guarantee you when you take that LCD home and set it up, you're going to want to turn the brightness down. Now as far as contrast in concerned, if you really think LCDs have better contrast, you do have something wrong with your eyes. Look at any plasma thats sitting next to any LCD, both showing the same feed with a lot of blacks and it should be extremely obvious. The plasma will actually look pretty black while the LCD will be dark gray.
