Don't beat yourself up over what you could have done. No one can forsee the future, and these things are unexpected. Hell if you could predict the future, you'd be super rich off lottery tickets.

Alot of people lose their jobs these days and go through hard times, you can't suspect them all to kill themselves. A girl I knew in highschool took sleeping pills to kill herself. Her mother got fired from our school the week before and I guess she felt like an outcast. For a while after the death, everyone who knew her wondered what they could have done. In the end we realized we couldn't have done anything because we simply didn't know. Even if we could talk her out of it, we just had no idea it was gonna happen.

The fact is that looking back at it, it's natural to feel you could have done something, but time never flows backwards, and you couldn't have had that perfect hindsight before hand.
