Old VanHalen...Eruption revolutionized guitar after that.

Black Betty, by a band that escapes me now..

I agree on Satriani, Steve Vai is awesome too.
Eric Johnson..Cliffs of Dover is a must if you are in to guitar.

If you like the metal stuff, The solo for "One" is decent

Dream Theatre has some great progresive playing

Little wing, by both Jimi Hendrix and my fav. Stevie Ray Vaughn.. ( download his stuff he was a true master )

I've always loved the solo for Cult of Personality by Living Colour

Yellow Ledbetter, by Pearl Jam..I spent months mastering this one..truly excellent guitar.

heh I could go on

I've been playing guitar for 17 years now.

Since I wasn't the only one to mention Eric Johnson, here is a thread I posted some time ago,

It was, as I said a great day

This isn't your classic rock but it is instrumental guitar music usually classified as New Age in the stores. Have you ever listened to Craig Chaquico? (pronounced cha-key-so). He was a guitarist in Jefferson Starship. I love his CD "Once In a Blue Universe" the most of his 5 or 6 CDs. Maybe you can hear it on www.higheroctave.com. I never get tired of listening to him. Blue Universe is one of my favorite songs.

Nobody said Randy Rhoads yet? The guy was the man for Ozzy back in the day. R.I.P. Try Suicide Solution (the long version with the guitar solo) or Crazy Train by Ozzy for some of his work.

In 1996,

Bradley Nowell recorded a song titled Santeria.

The band is Sublime. The solo in that song is very good.

Not sure if ya'll said Carlos Santana yet.

I saw him live just two months ago.

Mark Knofler (Dire Straits) and Alex Lifeson (Rush) should be in here too.
