sore joint.
Advil/Ibuprofen
What you are looking for is an anti-inflammatory. Is there a reason your knee has started to hurt? Did you pick up a new pair of shoes? Change your workout routine? Using an anti-inflammatory to resolve an issue is different than using it to control chronic pain.
Example:
I'm old and play baseball. At the beginning of the season my arm is sore from throwing. A couple of Ibuprofen a couple times a day will reduce the inflammation and soreness. Once down, I stretch, work on mobility and strength.
I play once a week, so about June my arm feels good and I'm off the Ibuprofen. At that point, a continued cycle of irritation and drug remedy could lead to damage. Basically, I would be doing more than my body can handle and masking the warning signs (inflammation) with drug remedy.

glucosamine and chronodroitin are good supplements for the joints.
Animal Flex is the only joint supplement that worked for me. It fixed my shoulder.
Cissus
Take something that improves joint health and not something that just hides the problem (painkillers).
If it is bother you at work go to the vet and get some EPF5 (Equine Pain Formula). It is a topical with about 10% benzocain in it. It will help you get through the day but is not a long term solution.
Aleve is just an OTC naproxin. If you don't want to go to the doctor (which I don't recommend) take about 6 a day.
Another good tip is to ice/heat/rest in 15 minute intervals when you are at home. Just repeat if necessary.
