It's my understanding the fire(s) in Orange County near Irvine are blamed on arson.
I believe there where 3 ignition points. I live in the Malibu/Calabasas area and we go through a fire every couple of years or so. In the 5 years that I have lived at my house I have been evacuated 3 times...

Sorry to hear that, George. I assume that they had insurance. (I know, that doesn't replace what was there, but at least they can rebuild.)

At least they weren't hurt.

I just got word that my sister's house in RB didn't suffer any damage other than soot and debris around it. No fire, no smoke, nothing. We were all absolutely amazed and they were blessed to have their property intact thus far. My brother in Carmel Valley also came out unscathed. After going through all possible scenarios in my head (I was ready to book a flight to SD to help them clean up wreckage), I'm so relieved and can at least fathom a very minor hint of what some people must be going through.

Great pics and video. Where was this taken? And why was that area not evacuated when the fires were just up that hill?

All of my friends in the Foothill Ranch area were evacuated sometime earlier this week. It sucks because I moved up to LA for school and my parents and my sister are still stuck down in Rancho Santa Margarita (less than 5-10 miles away from Foothill) and said that the fires are quickly spreading towards them. Hopefully the fires will be contained sometime soon but from what my friend, down in SD, said tonight was that they only have 10% of the flame contained and estimated that they would have the fire 100% contained by Nov. 4

There was a maditory evacuation, however the winds were calm by then and there wasn't much fuel on the hill since this was a ranch until a few years ago and the cows kept the brush down. Accross the valley was a different story. There was more fuel and the winds seemed to be a little stronger that's why there was more smoke and fire. It all made for a good show, but not much danger by the time I took the pics. These pics were taken in the Rolling Hills Ranch area in East Chula Vista. This was the leading edge of the Harris Fire that started about 25 miles east on Sunday. The Harris fire is now marching north at slow pace toward the town of Jamul.

Maybe they'll get some help from FEMA. We'll keep them in our prayers.
Thank you.
