When one refers to the Japanese, they usually refer to the nation AND the people. After all the nation of Japan consists predominantly of the Japanese people.

See that field? Hundreds if not thousands of students, teachers, and the headmaster at the time, were beheaded there by the Japanese soldiers. Most of their names are engraved on a column right below the clock tower, just as you enter the main entrance (we don't have all the names, just those whose name tags were found buried in the field years later).

By what you said in an earlier post, dbjb, it would be justifiable for me to hate the Japanese as well. I don't see how that's the case.
