Aye, resistance is futile.

Read a joke a while back.

God was talking to Satan one day and here's how the conversation went:

Satan: Oh, I just wanted to thank you for sending that engineer to hell. Since he's arrived, we've gotten air conditioning and a sprinkler system, not to mention cable TV.

God: I sent an engineer to hell?!? I didn't do that - someone made a mistake! You send him right back up here!

Satan: No can do. He's in hell and in hell he's staying.

God: Listen, you have to. If you don't, I'm going to sue you! How do you like that?

Satan: Oh yeah? And just where do you think you're going to get a lawyer?

LOL JonBoy

fyi for all, Jewish belief of heaven is a general waiting area where good souls hang out until The Messiah comes and the dead are resurrected to live in a utopian world. The idea is that once The Moshiach comes, noone will die and nothing will be bad. There is a Jewish "pergatory" where "bad" souls go and spend all their time thinking about what they did wrong until the Messianic Time, unless you're super bad and then you're gone for good and don't have a place in the world to come.

I think the march is fine, this country is made with dissidents in mind and the ability for them to express their opinions and desires for their persuit of happiness.

While you are putting in your .02 - How many people do you think will show? The million man march had between 800 and 900 thousand. The ladies didn't have that many. What do you think the agenda is? Are they wanting to swell their ranks or just enjoy Washington D.C.? Or, are they trying to challenge the faith of all the religious people in this country?

My answers to the above:

How many? I say less than 10 thousand - maybe 3 thousand on a nice day.
Agenda? They're tired of being ignored and watching religious groups grow.
What kind of event will it be? Complaining and criticizing. Mostly criticizing.

Pretty much correct, but there's a crucial distinction to be made which may not be clear. The vast majority of atheists, if pressed, would be more precise by saying that to be atheistic is to be 'non-theistic', which means 'absence of theistic belief'. In other works, it would be correct to say "He/She does not believe that there is a god", as opposed to "He/She believes that there is no god". Two very different statements. One is a negative statement about the knowledge claims of theists, the other is making a positive claim of knowledge. The first statement, also, says exactly nothing about what the person in question actually DOES believe.

I say 'if pressed' because the average person without philosophical training (theists and atheists alike) would treat the above two statements as pretty much equivalent in day to day conversation. If the distinction is made clear, however, most would agree to the first statement, not the second.
