thinking about moving out...
Would you be looking to rent an apartment/house or look into buying out there? Moving out adds up very quickly, I would suggest having more than $8000, or be aware that you might need to make some sacrifices (hell I had to sell my S to afford living on my own).
/agree with the do it and don't look back post.
Like the other have posted the heat is a killer. But in the end should be more jobs there that pay well there.
A plus, lots of good looking latina women around. Have your own "Fools Rush In" movie experience.

Trust me! It definitely adds up quickly and from NY to LV is going to cost you quite a bit! It's not like moving from NY to say... NJ. Then you have to factor in deposit, first and last month's rent for the apartment. I would save at least 12,000 to be on the safe side.
As far as LV is concerned, I have a friend of mine who moved out to LV back in June of last year. He loves it out there. I think a lot has to do with the fact that he has a much better job where he wasn't working like a dog when he was living in Tampa. However, a couple of things you have to consider out there...
1. It gets oppressively hot in the summer
2. Wages may not be the same as they are in NY. However factor in no state income tax and a lower cost of living in terms of rent, it may be a wash. However, LV is still a pricey place if you want to party, more than Atlantic City.
3. If you love the beach, keep in mind that you won't be close to one. That's a big factor for me why I would never move out there.
4. The winters are definitely chilly. Figure about 40s-50s in the day time and upper 30s at night.
As another fellow NY'er I was in your shoes once. I remember posting a similar thread in the Florida forum four years ago asking for insight on living in Miami. I was 23, fresh out of grad school, I went down to Miami on vacation and fell in love with it. I made it a goal that from that point on , I would move down here. When I was 29, I moved to Tampa, (which I loved living there) lived there for a year before I took a job in Miami. Although the summers are also oppressively hot down here, I absolutely love living down here and my quality of life is so much better than it was living in NY. If you have nothing holding you down, I would say do it. You're young and you only get to live life once. Vegas is a fun city and you will notice that many of your NY friends will be flying out there to visit. It's not just for gamblers anymore.
Yea im starting to think that 8000 wouldnt be enough. I feel like I cant go without having atleast 12k under my belt. I was shooting for sept/october move but I feel like i wont be able to go until after the new year of 09. I really dont wanna sell my S. Its always been my dream car (since it came out in 2000) I was thinking about parting it out, Im sure I could get a good chuck of change for my Volks, Asm goodies and all my extras.
i tried a few places all said it was hard bc of the great distance and compannys dont really wanna deal with someone looking to relocate. Im taking off tomorrow so Im gonna call every engineering firm and see if I can make any headway.
BTW whos that in yer sig s2000raj? She is perfect!

Try headhunter. I have friends and family that have had luck with it. They know of many more jobs than you, usually their services cost you nothing.
I truly wish you luck. When I was your age and younger I loved moving and going to new places.
