For those interested about Time Travel
you guys are referring to the simple set of equations of calculating relative rate of time change for one point in space vs another using velocity, dimension, speed of light constant and/or mass as parameters.
it shows how time is relative to your particular point in space to another particular point in space and that time is not a universal constant in all points of space. or another way to say it is that the rate of change of time is not the same everywhere in the universe.
it does not show "time travel" in the way we are talking about in that you can jump to your own past or future. The two are different things.
also the formulas do not show how u can travel "Backwards" in time.

hmmmmm if time travel was possible, that means the past present and future must all be happening at the same instant. its just that we perceive it to be occuring in a linear fashion because it would not be possible for us to understand how the past present and future can all be happeneing at the same time and how occurances in the past present and future can change the past present and future.
so instead of something happening in the past will affect the future, how about something happening in the past will affect the past present AND future at the same time because the past present and future is occuring all at once.
hahahaha

My $.02 to add to this convo and maybe some people will read more about it...
If you read Crichton and are familiar with his works, you know that he bases everything he writes off of fact. In the beginning of each book he gives very accurate historical background and reference books. You should READ (not see the movie obivoiusly) TimeLine. The book overall is a good read (obviously not true), but the actual references in the beginning show the work that's been done and you can read the books off of his bibliography to get more info.

This guy claims to be from 2036, which is 32 years from now. While this is not drastically far away, it would be interesting to consider what it would be like if say, you were a time traveler and went back 32 years ago (that would be 1972) and explain to the people of 1972 what life is like in 2004. Actually, that's not too difficult to imagine. Some of us were alive in 1972, perhaps youngsters, or even young adults at the time (depending on how old you are now
). Did the predictions for the future, whether portrayed in media or in science, actually end up coming true? How has the media changed? Popular music? Our morals? TECHNOLOGY?
Indeed there has been drastic changes over the past 32 years in technology, i.e., cellphones, THE INTERNET, personal computers, etc. But also consider the things that have not changed. I'll be 30 soon and so have had the chance to see many things change during the course of the past 30 or so years (given, the first 3 or 4 I was not really aware of much!). Cell phones used to be for the very wealthy and important, doing research meant going to the library and looking up books, getting phone numbers and directions meant busting out the yellow pages and getting out a map, and writing a letter meant actually getting out a pen, paper, an envelope, and a stamp!
Funny thing is....I still get the yellow pages delivered to my door step and DO open it up to look up things every now and then, just like they did 32 years ago. And, just like they did 32 years ago, I do still get out a pen and paper and write and mail a letter at the post office. I can drive to a small town and walk into a grocery store that looks just the way it did in 1972, that does not have a Starbucks in it with 200 rows of groceries.
I know my post has nothing to do with time travel, but sometimes, thoughts of time travel allow us to reflect on what things have changed, what things have not, and the comfort in knowing that the future can be what we make of it.

no, i hardly ever read books ( fiction ) ... just dont have time.. actually i dont even watch tv much.
I rarely even get the chance to watch movies in the theaters ie I missed xmen, lord of the rings, matrix, etc etc while they were showing in theaters.
but having to study quantum physics, relativity etc in college was really interesting. i usually sleep through my college classes but those subjects always kept be wide awake.
