Is tipping required for take out?

My mother raised me to get an education and be smart enough to choose a career where I would make decent money. BTW an s2000 is no luxury/status vehicle; it also has no bearing on this particular discussion.

I tip very well at restaurants that I frequent, but refuse to do so for to-go orders or for poor service. Bottom line is, tips are earned. It sounds like you are keeping our economy afloat on your tips alone!
College educated right here and working with tip based jobs. Why??? it pays 2-4x more than if I was in an entry level career in my field. Education is not a factor in a tipping world at all. I know engineers who wont do anything in the field because it would be giving up 30-50k a year.
And the S2000 comment was just to show you are not rolling in on a bicycle and to show if you are going to spend, spend where its due. Nothing gets to me more knowing how many homes/cars a person owns and they tip like a 16 year old out with their friends. Guess thats how rich people stay rich though.

i love threads like this because i get all worked up because i can not believe some of you dont think it is expected. Your mothers raised you better than that!!!!
But most of all, you drive an S2000!!! You can afford a few bucks to anyone who serves you.

I tip ANYTIME someone provides a service for me. The sandwich delivery guy "jimmy johns" if any of you know about them, you order a sandwich online, and in 20 minutes or less its at my door, 5 bucks for the delivery guy or girl.
The sonic girl, a few bucks. the guy who buffs my car, 20 or 40.
Take out should be no different.
The quality of the food should never reflect the tip, because the delivery person/waitress is NOT the cook. Dont base it on that! If they do their job, hook them up. Some stuff is not in their hands.

If you stiff once, you get remember believe it or not and it will reflect many things in the future. The quality of food, the attitude they have, and how fast you get it next time. If you are a repeat customer, I am sure they will make a note on the computer next time you place an order to warn their other employees of your tipping abilities or lack there of.
Give me a break. When I go to a business and pay that business for a service, I'm paying for them to pay their employees. There's no way I'm giving the sonic person a 50% tip because they walked the food 20 feet out to my car. It's fast food. They're not doing anything special and I've already paid for the food and for someone there to bring it to me. It's not like I can go in the kitchen and get it myself. If these people want more money, they can get an education and get a better job. I know I didn't get or expect tips when I worked in fast food during high school. Now every food place has a tip jar by the register. I shouldn't be expected to tip the person who takes my order at a fast food place.

first of all. i am pretty sure the software programs that run on the registers don't have a little check box for problematic customers. i am gonna call you out on that and say u made that part up.

also, the waiting staff are not the only people that know how to play passive aggressive games.

if the food takes forever to come out, i will eat it, ask for the manager, complain, then refuse to pay. wuts gonna happen to the waiter now?
actually some do. There was even a show on dateline or good morning america about a wal-greens got in trouble because the pharmacist tech wrote "Beeotch" on the computer and the customer found out somehow. It was really entertaining because the lady actually was and went as far as trying to get on tv for what workers do that "hurt their customers"
You ever check out the touch screens at restaurants the hostess' use? It tells who has what section or tables and they have a section where they can write notes such as "expecting more guests, leave table six open as well" or in the case above "Beeotch"

If you make so much then why are you on here bitching about people not tipping enough? I don't know what you do, but just this post seems proof to me that tipping is out of control in our culture.

sonic car hops are "suppose" to earn tips, they get that $2 something an hour as well.

just because i am fortunate enough to do well doesnt mean i dont feel for the people that dont. There are some days when that one guest/customer/patron can make or break someones day ya know?? I agree people need to earn a good tip just as much as the next guy but think about if you are the the only guest a server has for 1 hr,......the server then ends up paying to work there(out of their check) that 1hr where they didnt get tipped since the $2 taxed is actually a negative amount for the employee (tipped based jobs get taxed WAY harder than non tipped based jobs)

i am not worried about the money so much as i just dont like supporting the ass backwards concept of tipping. when i go out, i tip, but only because of the social pressure and i do it begrudgingly.

like our current president, my first job was working at baskin robbins. yes we had a tip jar, but its not like spit in the food or gave people dirty looks, or even felt the least bit perturbed, if customers didnt tip. and thats exactly the problem with waiters, they expect it, and throw hissy fits when the tip is not satisfactory. most of the times i eat out, the server will take my order and make 3 trips, 1 to bring drinks, 1 to bring food, and 1 more to bring the bill. does that warrant a 10 dollar tip? i dont think so.

hell, i am willing to get my own drinks and food from the kitchen if the restaurant would let me than pay some dude a 10-20 dollar tip.

and to continue this rant...bartender tipping... heres a dollar for taking the top off my budlight... wtf!!! i rather twist if off myself for a dollar per drink.

The tip jars are the things i dont agree with, they look tacky and desperate. Plus the places that set those up are not "tip based" jobs so therfore they shouldnt have money in them. McDonalds and the other normal fast food joints are paid decent wage hourly and are not taxed as a tipped job and shouldnt get it unless they are taxed on receiving tips like bartenders/servers etc.
I too agree tipping after opening a bottle is a little off, but tip after ALL the drinks are drank, or after they make you a drink, not open a bottle.
