TOP GEAR USA TONIGHT
THE SHOW WAS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Well at least compared to what I thought it might be like.
Yes, the hosts felt more scripted than spontaneous and the dark haired guy was just an absolute waste of $$ and stage presence. I don't even want to know his name, I just want him gone.
The fat guy with a beard might get better. He hasn't found his place in the TG world yet but he was boring as all get out in this show.
I thought Tanner came off the best of any of the hosts by a wide margin. He had the most enthusiasm and best personality.
I'm betting Tanner's not the Stig. Yes, they INTRODUCED the Stig to a new audience so they did an introduction and not a continuation as the UK show does. I'm betting they will build upon the Stig's legend as the show goes on.
The lead in to the show was abysmal! The guy who scripted it ought to be drawn and quartered. It sounded as if it was almost air time and someone realized they forgotten to do the lead in.
And is anyone surprised that they are copying some/many of the UK's stunts? If they didn't do anything like the UK you'd bitch cause it was nothing like TG UK. If they do it you say they copied it. This is TOP GEAR, they have to do TG stuff!

UK Top Gear took years to get where it is, been through many hosts to find the right combination. Give it some time, it will get better
Until then I would still take that any day over any dancing/cooking/survival/game/talk/reality show.

Every time I saw their set, I kept thinking about that scene from Wayne's World when they were on their new set:
Garth Algar: We're looking down on Wayne's basement. Only that's not Wayne's basement. Isn't that weird?
Wayne Campbell: Yeah, that's weird, man, that's weird. Garth! That was a haiku!

words cannot express how bad that crap was
The fact is, anything as good as UK Top Gear will never see the light of day in the US, and it has nary an iota to do with the show itself.
1. British wit is epic, and yet, most TV executives in the US will test it on Joe Public audience and declare it, "too highbrow," and will immediately cancel the show. Adam Carolla should have been in on this because the dude is funny, outspoken, and like Clarkson, able to defend even the dumbest idea to futility (and lulz).
2. No US TV exec is going to allow the kind of time that Top Gear UK had to develop.
After 1 quarter of shitty Nielsen numbers:
Exec A will demand that they get rid of the entire cast when the show starts sliding,
Exec B will demand that they change the time slot.
Exec C will demand that they fire 2/3rds of the cast, except for Foust, who got Exec C sweet tix to race.
Exec D will say that the show needs to be "right-sized," and insist that a race between a Nissan Versa and a Greyhound is exactly the same as a race between an Aston Martin and the French National Railway System. . .
I agree that adam carolla should have been a host!! I love the aceman (him, tanner, and maybe leno or something..)
I could barely watch the US version, I like the cars but it's incredibly bland.

its the first episode guys. Its going to have to grow on us and the cast have to grow togeather as a cast. Think about tosh.0 I hated that show when it first came out and now I kind of enjoy tosh's humor.
