Towing Capacity
I'm looking at a WRX which has a towing capacity of 2000. What do you think the results would be from towing 2100-2200lbs? This would be in the midwest so no hills/mountains on a normal basis.
Would the clutch/brakes/suspension be the weak links here?
Thoughts?

What would you be towing? The shape and size of the trailer can make a big difference. If you're pulling a boat, it might struggle a bit to yank it out of water at the ramp. Otherwise I can't see any real issues pulling an extra 100-200 lbs. The clutch/transmission would be the weak link. Unless the trailer is tongue heavy, it'll be no different than having some stuff in the trunk as far as the suspension goes. Stopping shouldn't be an issue, just don't expect 120 ft 60-0 stops (standard trailer towing practices apply). The other issue is cooling, but unless you plan on pulling this trailer for 100s of miles at a time, it shouldn't be an issue.
We used to tow a pop-up camper with a 1985 Volkswagon Jetta GL with all of 85hp. 2 Adults, 2 kids and stuffed full of camping gear. Drove it from NY to Florida, Maine, DC. Never had a problem at all. In fact, the original clutch survived for another 7 years. Including teaching 3 dumbass kids (me being one of them
) how to drive stick. Damn, that was a good car. I don't know what that camper weighed but I'm sure when fully loaded we exceeded the towing capacity of that Jetta by more than 1-200 pounds. I'm sure the Subie will be able to handle it.
