Default transferring credit card balances?

i have a mastercard platinum & amex blue. i always pay my balances in full, zero debt.. i'm buying a plasma tv and home theater setup that'll burn a few G's.

i found out that i can get 4.99% apr til my balance is paid in full for either card. so can i buy the set w/ 1 card, then transfer the balance to my other card and pay only 4.99%?

Some companies will have competely different rules for balance transfers. Very often you can also get a year at 0% on transfers as well. I would suggest calling each of the two companies and seeing what they can do for you.

This is what I did when I had to rebuild my engine. The remainder is now sitting on a 0% card while I chip away at it.

I just finished a year of 0% on my Amex Blue card, and Wachovia (MBNA card) just offered me 0% until November '05.

I get lots of 0% offers, but watch out for the tricky crap, like if you don't purchase something every so often, you lose the rate, or if you're late making a payment on any other bill, the rate goes up, etc. Read the fine print VERY carefully.

This is how I bought my wheels last year. Purchased on Visa, transferred to Discover for a year at 0%.

hmmm... no idea. i have a stack of checks and notices they send me for fixed 2.9% aprs for life or 0% for like a year or so...

it could be based off credit too... i jus thought it was a feature for all cardholders..

well on the letter it says "You can take advantage of this offer online at americanexpress.com/bt1"

but that requires you to login... so it could be anything.. how long you were a cardholder.. credit.. credit line? i dunno..

actually.. now that i reread your original intent... if your buying a home theatre... doesn't your local bestbuy/circuit city have those 0% offers for 2-3 years? circuit city and best buy here are running similar offers like that... jus finance through them? probably much easier... if your gonna get all your stuff from those places anyway..
