Trouble with Morpheus?
No connection here either. I don't get an error - just doesn't connect, and www.musiccity.com is down as well for me.
This article discusses the lawsuit against Musiccity and the Morpheus P2P file sharing client. No mention of a forced shutdown though.
Found this on /.
This is slightly off the topic of whether ISPs are to blame, but on the topic of Morpheus and their legal defenses:
Morpheus is down at the moment. When you try to connect, an error box pops up saying. "Your version of Morpheus is too old to connect to the network. Please download a new version at www.musiccity.com."
This is apparently a programming glitch caused overnight by developers -- there's no new version. It is interesting, however, because one of MusicCity's main defenses against being shut down was that they can't turn off the clients because they're fully distributed and aren't under central control.
This proves otherwise. I predict a court order will follow shortly and Morpheus will be gone.
Additionally, this article states that there was a programming change on the fast track servers which is blocking Morpheus 1.3.3 (the current version), while Kazaa and Grokster are still able to connect.
The mystery continues. The solution might be (for now at least) to download Kazaa and get AdAware (probably a wise idea regardless).
Kazaa 1.5 Download
AdAware 5.62 Download

Be advised that you have to leave the cd_clint.dll on your system for Kazaa to work (Cydoor). You can nuke the rest.
Took /. long enough to report on this. I got tired of looking for it. Thanks for the article

Here's an article about the outage. Doesn't shed too much light on things but at least it confirms that problems:

Morpheus is back... and now on the Gnutella network! An ENORMOUS event indeed. Gnutella is really going to take off now with the sheer mass of people who used it before. Limewire and Sharebear never really found a niche with the populous.

I download the client and it seems to function pretty well.

Ever since I installed the latest upgrade for my DirectPC, my pc
locks up a few minutes after Morpheus loads
Not sure how to fix it yet. I'm afraid if I reinstall
the old DirectPC software I'll loose all my connection
settings. It was a real pain to get it up and running
the first time so I don't want to repeat it if possible.
